Cheap Flights to Paris - Paris on a Budget
Cheap flights to Paris from the UK aren't hard to find, thanks to its popularity as a destination for budget airlines and its relative proximity to many British cities. The Eurostar to Paris also provides competition that keeps prices down. So getting a cheap flight to Paris should be easier than it is for many other destinations, although you will still have to remember all the usual rules of finding one.
The first of those rules is, of course, to shop around. Decide roughly when you want to go, and then compare budget airline prices for that period. Avoid being too specific about dates - the second golden rule of tracking down a cheap flight is to be as flexible as possible. When you're comparing budget airlines, remember that if you have already chosen a departure point in the UK, this will influence your choice of airline. EasyJet flies from Luton (but not Gatwick or Stansted), landing at Charles de Gaulle airport. Bmibaby goes from Cardiff and Durham (Teesside), also landing at Charles de Gaulle airport.

However, remember that not all cheap flights to Paris are to be found on so-called "budget" airlines. The third rule of bargain-hunting for flights is to check out the alternatives, and that means taking a look at the prices of other airlines too. Air France (mentioned on our page about flights to Paris) doesn't tend to do rock-bottom deals, but there are discounts to be had occasionally, so it's always worth a look. However, British Airways occasionally offer discounts to travel on certain flights; as always, flexibility is the key. Travelling at less popular hours is usually cheaper too: flights between noon on a Monday and noon on a Thursday are cheaper than weekend flights, while early-morning and late-night flights are cheaper than travelling in the day time.
The fourth rule of finding cheap flights - to Paris or anywhere else - is to read the small print. That once-in-a-lifetime price might not seem quite so unmissable once you see the final total. You may not find out how much the flight is costing you in total until you have nearly finished booking. Budget airlines are more likely than other airlines to conceal their hidden costs, because the surface attractiveness of their fares is essential to their ability to compete. However, other airlines do it too. The British Airways website explains at each stage of the flight-finding process that taxes and charges are not included in the fares shown, and states how much these extra charges are likely to be. However, you won't see it all added together until you have provisionally chosen a flight. You can also expect some mysterious charges from all airlines when booking online, from "administration fees" to compulsory "insurance" designed more to protect the airline than to protect you. British Airways even include a "security surcharge" to help pay for passenger protection in accordance with Government guidelines, and a "fuel surcharge", to help pay for rising world oil prices. You might think that an airline should include costs such as fuel as part of a ticket price, but the practice of charging extra for such things is widespread across the air travel industry. Air France is different from the rest in this regard, but, as mentioned above, tends not to do budget deals.
The fifth and final rule of finding cheap flights is to stick to the Internet. Budget airlines keep costs down partly by cutting back on telephone-based customer service or real-world premises. EasyJet has a call centre, but the searchable fact file on the website is designed to cut down on calls by answering frequently asked questions. (A useful tip: if your question isn't answered immediately by the fact file and you want to speak to someone, enter the words "speak to someone" or "telephone number" into the search engine and you will get a list of easyJet call centre numbers.) Bmibaby has a call centre, and the number is easy to find on the website, but booking online is still cheaper. British Airways will charge you an "offline service fee" if you don't want to pay over the Internet. The Internet gives you excellent scope for rapidly comparing prices without having to make too many phone calls, so it's a valuable tool if you want to find cheap flights to Paris. You also benefit from online resources; comparison websites such as Skyscanner (click here to go to the site) can compare a large number of airlines very quickly, saving you time. However, if you prefer to talk to a real person and do your booking offline, the world of budget airlines is not for you.
