Marrakech hotel A-Z: from low cost to luxury
Hotels in Marrakech run the gamut from flea-bitten backpacker's dives to opulent Kasbahs. There's something tailored to each budget, but room fill up quickly year-round; so it's wise to book early.
Luxury Marrakech hotels
La Mamounia - Located within the Medina walls La Mamounia has provided welcome respite for the well-healed and weary travellers since it opened for business in 1923. The guestbook reads like a copy of Who's Who, including past luminaries such as Winston Churchill and Doris Day. In 1986 investors lavished millions on a questionable makeover; unwittingly stripping Marrakech's grand dame of much of her charm. Still today's guests have acres of manicured gardens, a pool and health spa, a choice of five restaurants and even a casino to keep the busy. Rooms start at 3000 Dirham (approximately £185) in low season and spiral upwards. Reservations should be made well in advance. For further information Tel: 212 44 38 86 00.
Sofitel Marrakech - A relative newcomer to Marrakech's hotel scene, the Sofitel has quickly become one of the imperial city's most coveted addresses. What it lacks in aesthetic appeal the hotel more than compensates for in terms of location (just outside the city walls) and facilities; the outdoor pool is one of the places to be seen in Marrakech, while if you prefer to unwind in private there's an indulgent spa. There are enough bars and restaurants to cater to most whims and there's even a disco. For more information Tel: 212 44 42 56 00.
Mid-range hotels in Marrakesh
Marrakech boasts a number of riads, historic residences built around a shady courtyard, which provide a truly memorably stay. The atmosphere is inevitably relaxed, architecture and décor often stunning and the rooms eminently reasonably priced (for more information visit our page on Marrakech riads)
Cheap Marrakech hotels
Hotel Jnane Magador - If you manage to book early enough to reserve a room in Hotel Jnane Magador, you get a lot of bang for your buck. For 300 Dirham (less than £20) you'll get a comfortable double room in an elegantly restored 19th century riad. There's a terrace boasting views of the Atlas Mountains and you're just around the corner from Djemma el Fna. For more information Tel: 212 44 42 63 23
Hotel Sherazade - It's easy to see why the Hotel Sherazade is a perennial favourite with guidebook writers. Bang in the heart of the medina, the Sherazade is a well-loved riad offering relaxed seclusion in its courtyards and sun-worshipping on its terrace. For one of the better doubles expect to pay somewhere in the region of 400 Dirham (£25), although they go for as little as 220 Dirham. Tel: 212 44 42 93 05
