Edinburgh Tattoo, International Festival
Getting around - other related articles in this section > Tourist Info > Things to do > Short Break Tours > Edinburgh Castle > Edinburgh Tattoo > ZooThe Edinburgh Tattoo takes place every August as part of the annual Edinburgh International Festival. This spectacular musical program is produced by the Scottish Military and takes place on the floodlit Esplanade in front of Edinburgh Castle.
Over 215,000 visitors attend the Edinburgh Military Tattoo every year to enjoy music, military costumes and parades. However, the 50 year old event is more than bagpipes and kilts; the Edinburgh Tattoo also involves military re-enactments, daring stunts and displays by combat, motorcycle and parachute teams. Highlights include performances by the Massed Pipes & Drums and the Massed Highland Dancers.
Performers in the Edinburgh Tattoo come from around the world; past participants include the Army of the People's Republic of China, the Royal Gurkha Rifles of Brunei and the Cheraw Cultural Dance Troupe from Northern India.
The production comes to a close as all the performers gather on the Esplanade. The music turns moving and patriotic to represent all that is Scotland and the production ends at sunset with a solo by the Lone Piper.
