With competition on air routes running at an all time high, it's never been easier to find cheap flights to Dublin Ireland. The best deals are online where budget carriers and scheduled airlines are pushing sales and dropping fares. Fierce competition on routes out of London means that you'll have the best choice of flights and airports if you're leaving from the capital.

It's important to shop around, don't just assume that budget carriers have the best deals. Often by the time you factor in the cost of transport to the far-flung airports that budget carriers use, the price on the scheduled flights can be cheaper. Budget airline Ryanair has ridiculously low fares mid week but often scheduled carriers Aer Lingus, British Airways and BMI can beat these options on weekend deals. Aim to travel first thing in the morning or on the last flight of the evening for the best chance of cheap flights to Dublin Ireland.

Flights - London and UK

Ryanair has by far the greatest number of flights from regional UK airports, and with a total of 18 destinations so it's not difficult to find cheap flights to Dublin Ireland from your local airport. Aer Lingus is the next best option with flights from six UK airports; BMI and BMI baby fly from London Heathrow and Nottingham respectively; British Airways flies from London Gatwick and Fly Be from Exeter and Southampton.

Ticket prices on many routes are so low that's it's not unusual for taxes to add up to more than the base cost of your ticket. When booking online always check the site is secure before handing over your credit card details. Check for a closed padlock or secure key symbol and check the page address beings with https rather than http.

If you're not a fan of online booking, all the above airlines take reservations by phone, though fares are usually at least £10 more than online. Travel agents can also book flights but will add their commission on top of the fare and so are the most expensive option.

Once you arrive in Dublin you can taxi into town, 11km (7 miles) away, for about €20. The aircoach, a luxury bus service running every 15 minutes direct to city centre hotels costs €8 one-way and €12 return. Alternatively you can take the normal city buses No. 41 or 16 which are the slowest, but cheapest route to the city centre. The bus costs about €1.65 and takes about 40 minutes.
