Barcelona Tourist Guide - Nightlife Activities

No Barcelona Tourist Guide would be complete without at least some mention of the city's spectacular nightlife. When the last rays of Mediterranean sunshine disappear, the city's many pubs and clubs come alive with music and festivities that more often than not continue way past dawn the following day. Some of the most popular nighttime spots include the Barri Gotic, the seaside regions of Port Olimpic and Maramagnum and the laid back, alternative bars of La Rambla and the Raval.

Bars, Clubs and Lounges in Barcelona

The winding streets of the Barri Gotic are filled with lively bars and clubs, many of which are hidden down small alleyways and side streets. The medieval feel of the region provides for a unique evening experience that can take on any form you desire - a quiet drink in a swanky 70's style lounge or a lively dance session in an ultraviolet tinted club that lasts into the early hours of the morning. Visit So_da, a comfy little bar that by day becomes an elegant fashion store, or travel back to the days of saloon cars and cigars as you lean back against the towering wooden walls of the Barcelona Pipa Club. One thing to keep in mind as you meander through the narrow streets is the fact that the region is known for being a pickpocket's paradise, so be sure to hold on to your wallet at all times and never leave your bag unattended.

If you're looking to soak up the balmy sea breeze while enjoying a succulent seafood meal, seafront spots such as Port Olimpic and the Maramagnum centre are the perfect place to begin your evening. Both are lined with bustling restaurants and dockside bars as well as fiery salsa clubs and technicoloured discos that spring to life in the hours following midnight.

All toursit guides on Barcelona should mention the strip from La Rambla to Raval. This is filled with popular underground, alternative bars and cultural clubs that are renowned for being laid back and extremely welcoming of foreign visitors. Visit the cozy, renovated old theater of Conservas where local artist regularly perform quirky theater pieces, or sit back and relax amidst the strange red glow and bizarre decorations of the Merry Ant, the preferred evening retreat of the local Bohemian set. If it's a slightly more extravagant experience that you are after, pop into the La Paloma in the heart of Raval and witness local couples elegantly swish across the extensive dance floor. When midnight strikes, the century- old dance house is transformed into a trendy Bongo Lounge club, complete with rhythmic beats and curvaceous hip hop dancers.

Nightlife Tourist Guide - A More Relaxed Approach

If it's an evening of culture and music that entices you, head straight for one of the many concert halls and dance houses situated throughout Barcelona. In the evenings, the winding streets of the city almost seem to vibrate with song and dance. Symphonies and opera are regularly performed at large scale venues such as the L'Auditori and the Gran Theatre del Liceu in the Barri Gotic area, while the Joan Miro theatre is a favorite with international contemporary musicians who regularly give improvised performances on the theatres roof terrace. Watch Flamenco dancers set the night on fire at one of the many Flamenco clubs in the old quarter such as El Tablao de Carmen and Los Tarantos in the Barri Gotic. Finish off the evening by sinking into a soft armchair and sipping a colorful cocktail or two in the intimate settings of the Barcelona Rouge
