The Majestic has enjoyed a distinguished history and the hotel's guestbook makes for interesting reading (having provided lodging for the likes of the Catalan painter Joan Miro, the poet Federico Garcia Lorca and the Bourbon Queen Maria Cristina). The hotel's 303 rooms benefited form a multimillion euro refit in 1999 and today represent the epitome of modernist design. Once inside the reception is defined by cool clean minimalism, while the rest of the hotel is enlivened by one of the best collections of modern art in Barcelona. Contemporary works span the twentieth century, with significant contributions form Tapies, Chillida, Richard Long and Anish Kapoor.
Guests can choose from a number of restaurants, but will need to book in advance if they want to guarantee a table at the hotel's Michelin-starred Drolma. After dinner there's a relaxing piano bar or you can work off a few pounds in the rooftop swimming pool (great views. and a bar).
Rooms prices vary depending on when you intend to stay, and more importantly; who you book through (surprisingly agents are often better positioned to offer the best deals). If you want to really push the boat out you can stay in one of 32 suites, or plump for the 300-square-meter Penthouse.
