Cheap Flights to Barcelona, Budget Airlines and Fares to Spain

Barcelona Airport

Cheap flights to Barcelona are relatively common and easy to come by if you know where to look and how to go about making a booking. When looking for a cheap flight there are three important elements to keep in mind, these being the airline you are booking with, the time of your flight and your final point of destination.

As a general rule, booking through a travel agent is far more expensive than booking though a travel website or budget online airline. Well-known major airlines such as British Airways and KLM don't often offer cheap flights directly to the public. Their best offers will usually be reserved for travel agents who will charge high commission fees for making bookings and securing seats. The only time that it is really advisable to book through a travel agent is if you are a student or pensioner in which cases travel agents may be able to offer you significant discounts based on your age.

For the cheapest flights to Spain, your best bet is to visit the websites of popular budget airlines such as EasyJet and Ryanair. Both these airlines operate independently and therefore don't offer their tickets through travel agents or online booking agents. Make sure that you compare ticket prices and check dates, terms and conditions carefully before making a booking. In most cases refunds will not be offered on any tickets and if the date you have booked for is incorrect then you will be the one who will suffer the loss. Also make sure that you look into luggage stipulations, as budget airlines sometimes limit total luggage weight to 15kg or less which can present a major problem for some people. Other popular budget airlines offering cheap flights to Barcelona include Jet2, FlyGlobeSpan and Vueling airlines.

How far in advance you book your flight and the day and time that you fly can also have a significant effect on the overall cost of your ticket. Booking well in advance is always advisable as a number of airlines offer discounts for bookings made one month or longer prior to departure. Late night and early morning flights are usually far cheaper than peak hour flights, while weekend flights are almost always more expensive than weekday flights. It may also be useful to look into landing at one of the smaller airports such as Girona Airport located about an hour north of Barcelona. The smaller airports are used by a number of budget airlines and flights to these airports are often cheaper and easier to coe by than those to the main airport in Barcelona.

Finally, if you are looking for both flights and accommodation to and in Spain, it might be worthwhile to look into purchasing a package deal that includes flights, accommodation and in some cases meals, transfers and taxes as well. Online travel agents such as Travelocity, Expedia, Lastminute offer complete package deals that more often than not work out far cheaper than purchasing all the elements of your trip separately.
