There are hundreds of holiday apartments in Barcelona that are rented out for anything from a few days to a couple of months. Apartments are a wonderful alternative to hotels, particularly if you are traveling with children or in a large group.

As a general rule, renting an apartment in Barcelona is far more economical than staying in a hotel. Spacious and comfortable apartments can be rented for anything from €75+ per night for a studio apartment to between €120+ and €250+ for a three bedroom apartment. By comparison, a double room in a middle of the range hotel usually costs in the region of €100+ to €150+. Also keep in mind the fact that for four people you will need to rent two double rooms. For the same price you could rent an airy, serviced apartment with a large living area and separate kitchen. Make sure you also look out for last minute deals in which agencies sometimes slash apartment prices by up to 50%.

Guide to Barcelona apartments


Most holiday apartments in Barcelona are situated in the city centre, close to major sites and popular cafes and restaurants. The old area of town particularly popular with rental agencies with many of the ancient gothic buildings in the Barri Gothic and La Rambla being restored back to their original condition. Buildings in the coastal regions of Port Vell and Port Olimpic have also recently been touched up and turned into apartment buildings to accommodate visitors who wish to stay as close to the beaches as possible.

Almost all apartments in Barcelona are fully furnished and tastefully decorated, with kitchens containing all the necessary crockery, cutlery and utensils. The advantage to this is that if you feel like taking a break from restaurant food to enjoy some authentic Spanish cuisine then you can visit one of the many markets in the city and purchase your own fresh ingredients along with an ice cold bottle of Spanish vino. Most apartments are also fully serviced, so there will be no need to worry about cleaning dirty dishes at the end of your meal.

If you are traveling with children or in a group of four or more, then looking into renting an apartment for the duration of your stay will definitely be worth your while. Keep in mind the fact that some agencies require a minimum of four people to stay in larger two and three bedroom apartments, although in many cases this rule no longer applies. Most agencies will also require you to book your stay for three nights or more, although in certain cases these stipulations may not apply. In the event that you plan on visiting the city frequently, is also possible to rent apartments for anything from a few weeks to a couple of months. Long term apartment rentals in the city are usually snapped up extremely fast however, so make sure that you book well in advance.
