RCI timeshare is one of the most popular vacation ownership options in the world with over 3700 resorts in just under 100 countries to choose from and three million members worldwide. RCI is one of the four top developers with the largest number of resorts in its exchange system. Others include Fairfield, Worldmark and Sunterra. All are of part of the Cendant Corporation along with Fairfield and Worldmark. Founded in 1974 as Resort Condominiums International, RCI originally offered one-week timeshare exchange programs but now also offers a points system.
Owners of RCI Weeks based in a resort participating in the points system can convert their timeshare to RCI Points for a nominal fee and these points can then be used at any RCI or Fairfield resort. Alternatively, week based timeshares can be used to exchange within the extensive system of resorts. The points system has, however, become more popular due to the added benefits available. Points can be used in increments so owners can choose the length of their vacations, from one night to seven nights, throughout the timeshare period at different resorts. Points can also be used on other travel options such as car rental, flights, country cottages and cruises on most major liners. To further customize vacation length, season, resort and accommodation size points can be saved or borrowed from one use year to be used in another.
RCI offers members an impressive list of benefits. The Elite Rewards credit card program enables RCI timeshare owners the opportunity to earn rewards on everyday purchases that can be spent on vacation, flights, car rentals, hotels and other travel services. Rewards can also be redeemed for theme park tickets, movie tickets and retail or restaurant certificates that can be spent on shopping or dining. The RCI travel agency offers members exclusive offers and discounts on travel services such as flights, hotels, travel insurance and holiday packages. Members also receive a bi-monthly travel magazine.
