Renting Costa del Sol Villas

A wide range of Costa del Sol villas are now available to the millions of sun seekers who flock to this popular stretch of Spanish coastline each year. Gone are the days when the holiday hordes had little choice of accommodation beyond the high rise hotels and apartment blocks which have mushroomed all along this Costa since the 1960s.

Private villas with swimming pools were once aspired to only by the smart set – the kind of people who can afford to moor their luxury yachts in that swankiest of Mediterranean ports, Puerto Banus. But things have changed over the last ten years. Cheap charter flights connecting Malaga with major European destinations and an explosion of private villa development have combined to offer Joe Public an affordable option when it comes to choosing a Costa del Sol holiday. These days it’s possible to rent a three-bedroom villa - sleeping six people - with a private pool for less than the price of three double rooms in a rather mediocre hotel.

Costa del Sol Villas: unlimited options

Thousands of foreign buyers are now investing in holiday homes in this part of Spain with the sole purpose of letting them. And the choice is huge. There are lap of luxury villas on Marbella’s glorious “Golden Mile” where you can spend vast sums of money for the privilege of rubbing shoulders with Arab sheikhs and stars of the silver screen. Or you can escape from the madding crowds in a rural retreat in inland Andalucia which is a world apart from the hustle and bustle of the popular seaside resorts. Many private villas and apartments are located directly on or near one of the 30 golf courses to be found along the Costa del Sol. And at the quieter ends of the Costa – in relatively relaxed resorts such as Estepona and Nerja – you’ll find an extensive choice of affordable villa rentals ideally suited to families or groups of friends holidaying on a limited budget.

Many villa owners advertise their holiday properties on the Internet or in newspapers and magazines without going through high street agents. So if you’re keeping a tight rein on your euros, consider booking a villa directly from the owner to avoid paying commission.

Some of the more helpful owners offer to arrange car hire, golf course green fees and flights so you get all the benefits of dealing with an agent without the added costs.
