Tossa has a good variety of holiday accommodation but has managed to avoid the concrete high rise development which now characterises so many Spanish coastal resorts. There are some top quality modern hotels with first class facilities, plenty of mid-range three star hotels geared to the demands of international tourists and small family run pensions where rooms are modest (with prices to match).
One of the best-equipped hotels in town is the three-star Best Western Hotel Reymar right on the beachfront at Mar Menuda and just 200 metres from the town centre. The hotel has 166 rooms, all with satellite TV and private balconies giving sea views.
There are indoor and outdoor restaurants, a swimming pool, tennis courts, health and fitness suite with solarium, sauna, jacuzzi and gym, a disco and children's play area.
The Golden Bahia is another four-star hotel, in the centre of Tossa 800 metres from the main beachfront. Its 380 rooms all have satellite TV, a balcony, mini bar and air conditioning. The hotel has an excellent spa and gymnasium, as well as a large outdoor area complete with pool.
Numerous one, two and three stars hotels in the area offer various levels of service and facilities to suit all tastes and budgets.
If you're looking for cheap and cheerful accommodation in a more Spanish environment try one of the many pensions and hostals which proliferate here. Many of them are housed in buildings which are more attractive and certainly have more character than some of the modern, international hotels.
Facilities are usually pretty basic but you'll normally get a clean and comfortable room, sometimes with en-suite facilities (pensions are like a Spanish version of the English B&B or guest house). Hostal Horta Rosell in Calle Pola is a typical example of a local pension - it's in a lovely old building where all rooms have a private shower and toilet but your only on-site facilities are a tea room and garden. Breakfast is included in the price.
There are five top grade campsites in Tossa including the highly rated Cala Llevado site on the coastal road towards Lloret. The site is in beautiful unspoilt countryside with Mediterranean views and access to four local beaches.
Fully equipped tents, caravans and bungalows are available to rent at the site which has its own supermarket, pool, bar, restaurant, laundry and hair salon. And for those who don't quite want to get away from it all, there are Internet, email and fax facilities.
A good range of water sports are on offer at the seafront and the site reps organise a full programme of entertainment and activities.
Local travel agents handle the letting of self catering apartments and villas in and around Tossa. Many of the apartment complexes have good communal facilities (swimming pools, shops, disco etc) and full entertainment programmes, especially in the summer months.
