You'll find a lively nightlife in Roses with everything from small late-night tapas bars and ballroom dancing to spectacular flamenco shows and international clubs. You may prefer to just relax on the terrace of a waterside tavern and watch the sun go down - Roses is renowned for its gorgeous sunsets because of its location at the northern end of the bay, facing west. After the last rays have gone, you'll be able to watch the small boats fishing in the moonlight.
There are numerous bars and restaurants geared to all tastes and budgets. International flavours include Chinese, Mexican, Italian, German and Argentinean. There are burger bars, fast food joints, cheap set-price meals and buffet restaurants.
There are many good quality Catalan restaurants serving local specialties and Mediterranean cuisine. As Roses is home to the biggest fishing fleet on the Costa Brava, it's no coincidence that the emphasis is on fresh fish. One of the most famous local dishes is "suquet de peix" (a cross between a soup and a stew made from fish, including shell fish).
Prices vary but at the cheaper end of the market you'll be able to enjoy a perfectly palatable three-course meal with wine for around £5.

Flamenco shows are staged regularly at El Patio on the main road between Roses and Figueres and El Cortijo in Carrer Alhambra.
If you fancy a night at the gambling tables there's a big casino at the beautiful Castle of Peralada, to the west of Roses. The casino has 81 slot machines and 16 tables where you can chance your hand at American and French roulette, poker and blackjack. You'll need your passport to gain entry.
For more traditional entertainment, there are local fiestas held in Roses practically every month of the year. Check with the tourist information office in Avenida de Rhode to see whether any fiestas or cultural events are being held during your visit.
There's a big carnival here in mid-February and for the religious feast of Corpus Christi, in June, carpets of flowers are laid throughout all the town's main streets.
June 23rd sees one of the most spectacular fiestas with a huge bonfire and firework display to celebrate the feast of Saint John. On June 29th there's the fiesta in honour of St Peter, the patron saint of fishermen, with a big "suquet de peix" for all revellers, dancing and "castellers" (human castles) in the streets.
One of the biggest fiestas of the year takes place in August when the town becomes a giant party for the entire month with classical and rock concerts, theatrical performances, dancing and fireworks. One of the highlights of the festival is the parade of the giants, when huge and beautifully sculpted figures are carried through the streets.
From June through to September you'll be able to see the famous Sardana danced in Placa Catalunya every Saturday. This local folk dance is an important emblem of this region and involves participants joining hands and dancing in circles to symbolise the strong sense of brotherhood felt by the Catalonian people.
