Nerja has managed to avoid a skyline of concrete high rise hotels but you'll still find a good range of holiday accommodation here, from top quality hotels and smaller hostals to self catering apartments and private villas.
One of the best places in town is the four-star Parador (Book Now), one of the distinguished chain of government owned hotels. It's in a prime position in Calle Almuñecar on the cliff top overlooking Burriana beach to the east of the town centre.
The 73-room Parador has beautiful sea views and is renowned for the excellence of its restaurant. Facilities include tennis courts, a swimming pool, and minibars and satellite TV in each room. The hotel has beautiful gardens and a lift down to the beach.
Another four-hotel in a prime location is the Balcon de Europa (Book Now), built into the rockface above La Caletilla Beach with spectacular views along the coast and across the sea to North Africa.
The hotel's main entrance is on the sixth floor and there's direct access from the bedrooms to the beach. The Balcon de Europa is ideally placed with easy access to all local attractions and guests enjoy excellent facilities - restaurants, a piano and snack bar, heated swimming pool, sauna and massage rooms.
A small but delightful hotel can be found in the mountains around the town. The Al Andalus Mountain Hotel (Book Now) is just a few hundred feet from the Nerja Cave. This elevated postion gives guest access to some fantastic sea views.
At the cheaper end of the market there are many small family-run hostals in the town centre, near the beach and in the hills behind Nerja. The accommodation can be fairly basic but is normally clean, comfortable and exceptionally good value for money.
A typically Spanish hotel is Hostal Lorca in the Calle Mendez Nuñez in the old quarter, close to the local tapas bars and just 650 metres from the sea. The hostal is in a very Spanish street, perfect for enjoying the town's old world charm which differs from the more cosmopolitan flavour of the seafront. It has its own pool and garden - only breakfasts are available but there are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby.
Or try the Hostal Mena in Calle El Barrio near the Balcon de Europa and beaches. This 17th century building has been beautifully renovated and provides a charming haven of traditional Andalucian patios, Arab archways and exotic gardens
There are camp sites dotted along this stretch of coast including Nerja Camping on the N340 coastal road near the caves at Maro. The site is by the sea and well equipped with a bar, restaurant, laundry, swimming pool and grassy areas. Caravans are welcomed and bikes are available for hire.
Many local agents handle the letting of hundreds of self-catering apartments and villas in the area. If you're travelling in a large group you may find renting a villa works out cheaper than a hotel as you normally pay a set fee for the villa rather than paying per person. The vast majority have either a private pool or access to a communal pool.
