Don't come to Mojacar expecting the wildest nightlife on the Spanish Costas. You won't find Benidorm-style rave-ups or the glitz and glamour of Puerto Banus here. But for families with young children and couples wanting some fairly low key entertainment after the sun goes down, Mojacar is the ideal destination.

Foreign teenagers who have holidayed in Mojacar with their parents have complained about the lack of nightlife within the resort.so be warned! There are a few clubs which stay open until the early hours in high season - but we're not talking international DJs and breath taking laser shows here.
Much of the summer season entertainment is organised within the hotels and apartments complexes by tour reps. If you're on a package holiday you'll probably find a good programme of nightly entertainment including flamenco shows, karaoke, bingo, clubs for young teens and games for kids.
The tour operators' early evening kids' clubs in the local hotels are a huge hit with children and parents alike - the youngsters play, dance and exhaust themselves until bed time while their parents can relax over a few drinks.
The liveliest nightlife is down at the seafront promenade where you'll find live music and entertainment in the bars and hotels until the small hours during the summer months.
One of the liveliest bars is the Irish Rover where you can enjoy a pint of Guinness, live music, Irish dancing and a great atmosphere. Roly's bar organises regular evening entertainment geared to British visitors. And Badger's Bar, owned by former Aston Villa player Keith Bradley is another lively popular meeting place, especially among the Brits.
There are plenty of international restaurants to choose from - from cheap "chinkies" and pie and chip joints to more upmarket Italian, Indian, Mexican and Argentinian fare.
For a more typically Spanish flavour try some of the tapas bars and charming restaurants in the old town.
Traditional dishes are home-cooked and rely on fresh local produce - try the caldo de pescado (fish stew), pelotas (delicious meatballs wrapped in dark green cabbage leaves) or pimiento rellenos (stuffed peppers).
The neighbouring town of Garrucha, a short drive north up the coast, has some excellent seafood restaurants where the local specialty is the locally caught red shrimp.
For a family night out, try the barbecue and western evening at Mini Hollywood where you can drink, dine and dance while the kids are kept amused with various entertainment. Local tour operators arrange tickets and transport.
If you're visiting Mojacar in June you'll be able to enjoy one of the biggest local fiestas of the year - the three-day Moors and Christians celebrations when the streets of the old town become a riot of colour, music, dancing, street parades and late-night revelry.
