Mijas is an upmarket and relatively quiet resort so don't come here expecting all night clubs and karaoke bars! But you can drink and dine in the local bars and restaurants till the wee, small hours and for a wilder night out you've got the big coastal resorts only a short distance away.
In the nearby holiday towns of Malaga, Benalmadena, Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Marbella you'll everything you need for a great night out. The entertainment ranges from gay night-clubbing to traditional flamenco performances. There are clubs, casinos, theatres, clubs and cinemas.
Mijas Costa has late night music and entertainment during the summer months but the best place to go for all night partying is Torremolinos, the "disco city" between Fuengirola and Malaga.
Here you can take your pick of more than 250 restaurants - enjoy a leisurely evening meal because the clubs won't be in full swing until 1am!
The biggest disco - reputedly the largest in Europe - is the Fun Beach in Avenida Palma de Mallorca. It has several dance floors and a swimming pool and the waiter and waitresses wear swimsuits to work!
The Palladium, regarded by some as the most "happening" place in Torremolinos, is another huge and popular disco where you can take a dip in the enormous swimming pool in between boozing and boogying! This too is in the main street of Avenida Palma de Mallorca.
Torremolinos is notorious for its swinging gay scene most of which is centred around the area of La Nogalera. There are gay pubs and clubs here as well as Oscar's Bay which has a dance floor and music geared to the more "mature" night owls.
Nearby Fuengirola buzzes at night with lively bars and clubs. Or try a night of tapas bar crawling round the central streets of Malaga. Join the locals on an all-night cruise round the bars, ending with breakfast on your way home to bed! Go where they go and you'll have a cheap night out with great local food.
The port area of Benalmadena has some classy clubs and bars and in the Fortuna Nightclub at the Hotel Torrequebrada you'll find one of the biggest casinos in southern Spain.
If you want to burn a hole in your pocket head for swanky Puerto Banus on the west side of Marbella. People watch and celebrity spot on the quayside from the famous Sinatra's Bar or visit one of the many disco bars, clubs and cocktail bars which proliferate in this playground of the seriously rich. Expect to pay mega prices for everything.you don't come to Marbella for a cheap night out with the lads!
Bars and restaurants both along the coast and inland often stage traditional flamenco shows - it's a good night out if you're looking for a taste of the real Andalucia. The soulful singing, the amazing guitar and percussion performances and of course the incredibly graceful and passionate dancing all add up to a very special evening.
You'll find regular dinner shows (international cabaret followed by flamenco) at Hotel Torrequebrada, about 15 minutes drive from Mijas.
The Sala de Fiestas Bona Dea at Nueva Andalucia near Puerto Banus, about 25 minutes drive, lays on Spanish classical ballet and flamenco shows.
A useful guide to local live entertainment is the monthly Andalucia Que Hacer - Guia de Ocio. It's in Spanish and English and you can pick up a copy from any of the tourist offices.
