Brace yourself! Marbella's nightlife is second to none of the Spanish coastal resorts and will keep you partying from dusk till dawn.
Start your evening with a stroll along the glitzy Golden Mile, flanked by street cafes, bars and swanky restaurants. Try an exotic cocktail and people watch for a while before moving on to one of the town's mouthwatering range of restaurants.
Set yourself up for the evening with a cheap but excellent home cooked Spanish "menu del dia" or treat yourself to a meal at one of the hundreds of international restaurants offering every kind of cuisine (at every kind of price). There's Lebanese, Thai, Polynesian, Greek, French, Italian, Moroccan, Japanese.
You'll find the Casco Antiguo or Old Town of Marbella awash with excellent restaurants and cheap back street tapas bars. The place is bursting with life at night and is a great area for a bar crawl. One of the old quarter's best (and most expensive) restaurants is the Buenaventura offering creative and imaginative cuisine with the emphasis on meat and fish specialties.
A cheaper but equally well known venue is Toni Dalli's Pasta and Pizza Factory in Avenida Fontanilla. Owned by the former Royal Variety star of the same name, the restaurant is now run by his son and has a lively atmosphere and good Italian food. Tony Dalli, who starred at the London Palladium many years ago, is now one of the famous faces of Marbella. If you get lucky, he may be there to entertain you with his terrific tenor voice.
The Golden Mile is littered with top quality restaurants, bars and clubs, as is the port area of Puerto Banus where you'll find the casino, multi cinema and the fabulous Trader Vic's Polynesian restaurant with its tropical cocktails and flavours of the South Pacific.
After your meal it's time to take your pick of the huge range of bars and clubs offering all night entertainment. There are sophisticated piano bars, flamenco shows, live cabaret, rock music, karaoke and some excellent clubs.
For a traditional and fun night out of flamenco music and dancing head for Ana Maria's in the Plaza de Santo Cristo in the old town. Rock music fans should make a beeline for Frank's Corner in the centre of Marbella near the Skol Hotel. The bar tends to attract those in their mid-twenties to thirties; it has a great collection of rock memorabilia and offers outdoor terraces, snooker and billiards.
If you're aiming for something a little more chic and elegant then La Notte Piano Bar, in Camino de la Cruz, is the place to enjoy a cocktail and live music in sumptuous surroundings.
Puerto Banus is relatively quiet during the winter months but is buzzing with nightlife in peak season. One of the most popular bars here is Sinatra's which you'll find at the entrance to the port, pulsating with music and bursting with bodies.
You'll find live cabaret nightly at Maxim's restaurant which offers some class acts and an excellent menu.
O'Grady's is a bustling Irish bar in the port, popular with young locals and tourists alike. There's a resident DJ (although not too much room to dance).
El Cubanito is a disco pub, with an unusual thatched roof, an outdoor dance floor and booming Cuban music. Or swing to the salsa music at The Mambo, one of the biggest night time venues in Puerto Banus.
One of the top clubs in town is Olivia Valere on the Istan Road near the Marbella Mosque. It's seriously upmarket.and seriously expensive! A great place to celebrity spot - but dress to kill or you may not even make it past the bouncers.
Oh Marbella in the Hotel Don Carlos is also one of the town's most popular clubs where the music keeps thumping till dawn with internationally renowned DJs calling the tune in high season.
Other late night haunts are the Scream Disco in the port (for those who like their music at ear splitting levels) and the popular La Comedia Club where you can drink and dance to all the latest hits until the early hours.
