Lanzarote Nightlife - Getting around

Introduction - Beaches - Accommodation - Day Trips - Car Hire

Lanzarote's liveliest nightlife takes place in the capital, Arrecife, and the two main resort areas of Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise. There's a good selection of bars, restaurants and clubs to keep you partying until the small hours. But if it's a wilder party scene you're looking for you'll be better off in Tenerife or Gran Canaria.

Restaurants cater for all tastes and budgets. You'll find excellent value set menus, traditional Canarian fare and a full range of international restaurants particularly in the resort towns. You can eat cheap Chinese, Indian curries (at the amusingly titled "Mahatma Cote" restaurant!), Mexican, Italian, burgers and chips.

Eat traditional Spanish tapas in Arrecife or drink draught Guinness at the Irish bar in Puerto del Carmen.

Local specialties served in the Canarian restaurants include toasted maize ("gofio") with white cheese, fresh fish (the Canary Island gilthead, grouper or red sea bream), baby goat, wild rabbit and for dessert the popular "frangollo" made from milk and maize.

Wash down your meal with one of the local wines produced from grapes grown in the bowels of volcanic craters. El Grifo, Mozaga and La Era are the labels most renowned for their quality.

For a special dinner out try the Lagomar Restaurant at Nazaret on the Costa Teguise. The restaurant has been built in the grounds of the spectacular former home of actor Omar Shariff. Here you can enjoy delicious Mediterranean cuisine (try the duck magret with caramelised apple) while savouring the views from one of the lakeside terraces.

The hottest nightspot on the island is the "golden mile" of Avenida de las Playas Puerto del Carmen where you'll find late might music bars and clubs.

Cesar´s is one of the top clubs in town, offering a mix of commercial dance, R n' B and chart music. The club puts on some impressive light shows and provides live entertainment throughout the night. Entrance is free and the doors don't close till 6am.

La Curva in Calle Juan Carlos 1 provides a more raunchy night out with plenty of sexy señoritas, erotic shows (and private performances on request!)

Waikiki and Harley Rock are among the most popular bars on Avenida de las Playas. There's the Jazz Pub in Marina Bay and the lively Cerveceria San Miguel in Avenida del Varadero which is the place to go for a British pint, cocktails and big screen videos.

The Casino de Lanzarote is on Avenida de las Playas if you fancy trying your luck at the slot machines or gambling tables. Games include American roulette, poker and black jack (you'll need your passport to get in).

If you're staying in a hotel some distance away from the main resort centres, check in advance whether any in-house entertainment will be laid on. Many hotels provide a full entertainment programme with early evening kids' clubs, karaoke, cabaret shows, live music and dancing.

Local fiestas take place throughout the year, especially in Teguise, Arrecife, Haria and Tias. These range from solemn religious processions to colourful costume parades and street carnivals. The Spanish really know how to party and fiestas provide a great way to let your hair down with the locals. Check with the tourist information office for details of any local fiestas taking place during your visit.
