The nightlife of Pineda is fairly low key, especially when compared with next-door Salou which is the place to go if you're an all night party animal. In high season you'll find plenty of late night music bars down at the beachfront and a few clubs where you can dance till dawn.
Much of the night time entertainment here is centred on the hotels and apartment complexes which organise various activities for guests including live music, shows and karaoke. Check with your tour operator before travelling to see what the level of entertainment will be like if a lively nightlife is important to you. Many of the better reps provide a packed programme of quiz nights, bingo, comedy and cabaret etc.
It's also worth asking if there's a kids' club with early evening entertainment as this can be a godsend after a hard day at the beach! Being able to relax with a cold beer while the kids are worn out before bed (by someone else) must rate as one of life's greatest pleasures for harassed parents.
The two biggest clubs in town are Pacha, at Platja de la Pineda (big on foam parties and theme nights), and Level 0 in Plaza Manuel de Falla.
If you fancy a change from the bars and restaurants along the Passeig de Pau Casals, pop along to Salou where you'll be spoilt for choice in terms of eating out and entertainment. Visit the Font Luminosa fountain at the end of the promenade - a marvellous creation, by the founder of the famous Barcelona fountains, with ever-changing shapes and colours. Nearby is the permanent funfair which is a major magnet for teenagers after dark.
You can party the night away in Salou and catch a cab back to Pineda in the small hours.
If you're a seafood fan an evening meal in Cambrils is a must because this ancient fishing port boasts some of the best fresh fish restaurants in the whole of Spain. Start with an early evening drink and watch the boats land the day's catch which is sold at public auction.
If you've got some money in your pocket, head for one of the Michelin-rated restaurants which have earned acclaimed from gourmets worldwide. The most famous are Can Bosch in Rambla Jaume and Joan Gatell in Paseo Miramar. Expect to pay more than the average by Spanish standards but compared with top-notch London eateries these restaurants offer world-class food at very reasonable prices.
Keep an eye out for any local fiestas taking place during your holiday as these make a great night out with music and dancing in the streets, colourful parades and fireworks. Local tourist information offices will be able to supply details. There are various fiestas throughout the year in Vila-seca, Salou, Cambrils and Tarragona.
Every Saturday and Sunday evening in Salou you can see the famous Catalonian Sardana dancing down at the seafront and listen to the soulful strains of the "Habaneres" folk songs.
