La Manga is a purpose-built sports and leisure complex where the vast majority of accommodation is provided within "villages" of self-catering apartments and villas.
The accommodation can be booked direct from owners or via agents who will put together a tailor-made package to suit your needs. You can book a special golf package, for example, which will include your flight, car hire, accommodation, golf tuition and discounted green fees.
For hotel accommodation.well, you've only got one choice within the resort. The swish and sumptuous Principe Felipe, part of the Hyatt Regency chain, lies at the heart of La Manga with all the superb facilities you'd expect of a top international hotel. You don't book a budget break at a five-star Hyatt but if your wallet can bear it, you're in for some serious pampering here.
The hotel has 192 bedrooms and suites with wonderful views of the golf course, pool and surrounding countryside. All rooms have individually-controlled air conditioning, a balcony, satellite TV and mini bar.
Facilities include the elegant Amapola Restaurant which serves first class Mediterranean and international cuisine. There's a lively piano bar, a jazz and dance bar and the late night casino with 40 slot machines and 20 gaming tables. There's a large heated outdoor pool with a poolside bar and restaurant.
If money's no object, then check into the hotel's Royal Suite on the top floor. It's decorated with objets d'art and has a lavish bedroom leading to a sumptuous marble bathroom complete with sauna and hydro massage shower.
The Hyatt hotel group also manages the Las Lomas apartments, one of the resort villages where visitors can combine the freedom and comfort of self-catering accommodation with the convenience of readily available dining and leisure facilities.
The 60 apartments have been built in the style of a traditional Spanish pueblo. Varying in size from studios to three-bedroom apartments, the village overlooks the North Course and has its own restaurants, mini-market, tennis court, pool and children's play area.
Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, colour TV with satellite programmes, video, phone and balcony with barbecue.
Among the other resort villages, one of the most exclusive is Los Olivos - a complex of one, two and three bedroomed luxury apartments, furnished to a high standard with access to some first class leisure facilities. The village has two large outdoor pools and an indoor heated pool with spa, gym and jacuzzi.
The Los Molinos development is another particularly attractive "village" of one, two and three bedroomed villas built in the style of the white windmills of southern Spain (Los Molinos means "the windmills"). The complex has a wonderful swimming pool with a waterfall, poolside bar and restaurant and separate kiddies' pool.
Besides the developments with communal facilities, there are many individual villas with private pools and gardens. These can be booked either through travel agents or direct from owners.
Outside the club's boundaries you'll find some good quality but cheaper accommodation in the numerous Spanish hotels and hostals which pepper the coastline and flank the shores of the Mar Menor. Many are right on the beachfront and have good leisure facilities such as private pools, saunas and spa baths.
