Hardened clubbers may never see the light of day when they visit Ibiza - except on the dawn trip back to their hotel from one of the mega-clubs. But worry not if all-night partying isn't your scene because the island has a wealth of daytime attractions for youngsters and adults alike. The only problem you'll have is trying to fit it all in.
Ibiza has nearly 60 beaches to enjoy, from long stretches of fine, white sand where watersports and tourist facilities abound, to hidden rocky coves only accessible on foot or by boat.
Beyond the main tourist centres of Ibiza town and San Antonio, you can explore a magical landscape of mountains, valleys and traditional villages scattered among the water melon fields, orange and lemon groves.
Explore the different coastal resorts via water taxi or take a bus inland to some of the unspoilt towns and villages which are still virtually untouched by international tourism. Local tour operators organise cultural sight seeing trips of the island's ancient monuments, churches, caves and historic sites.
Santa Gertrudis, in the centre of the island, is just about as far away from the sea (and the Brit bars!) as you can get. This is where many locals gather to take refuge from the madding crowds of high season.
San Mateo is a lovely little hamlet near the northern coast, surrounded by mountains which end in rugged cliff tops giving spectacular views of the Mediterranean. A sprinkling of houses surround the 18th century church and traditional farmhouses pepper the surrounding countryside amid fields and pinewoods.
Santa Agnes, in the north of the island, is one of Ibiza's best conserved villages which has escaped the tendrils of mass tourism due to the inaccessibility of the nearby coastline. You reach the coast over rough countryside only to be confronted by huge cliffs. The valley here is an incredible sight in February with a sea of white blossom from hundreds of almond trees.
Hiking, horse riding and mountain biking are all popular ways to discover the "other Ibiza". Off-road safaris on quad bikes are also available for adventurous types - an exciting way to take in the breath taking beauty of unspoilt areas of the island.
A myriad of sports and leisure activities is available here - from tennis, golf and go-karting to bowling, ballooning and bungy jumping.
The kids will enjoy a day out at Aquamar, the island's biggest water park at Playa d'en Bossa near Ibiza town or Aqualandia at Talamanca.
There are scenic tours by land train from Eulalia and San Antonio. Or get away from it all for a day and take a boat trip to the lovely, unspoilt island of Formentera - possibly the Mediterranean's best kept secret, a world apart from Ibiza's frantic clubland.
And if you're not relaxed enough after that, try the sensory deprivation flotation tank at the Alquimia Centre in the Vara de Rey part of the old town. You can even fall asleep safely while floating in the water due to the high dose of magnesium sulphate in the tank. Other alternative health treatments such as acupuncture, reflexology and naturopathy are also available at the centre.
The famous weekly Hippie Market is a firm favourite with tourists. It's held every Wednesday from May to October in the grounds of the holiday club Punta Arabí in Es Cana, near Santa Eulalia.
You'll find various "hippie" goods such as batik shawls, Asian jewellery, leather moccasins and incense burners. Look carefully and you may even spot some of the original hippies who arrived here in the sixties (rather more grey than groovy these days). Hang on to your wallet because this is also a popular spot for pickpockets.
