Huge clubs, trendy quayside bars, a casino, international cabaret and flamenco shows - all this and much, much more makes Benalmadena one of the Costa del Sol's favourite nightlife hubs.
The modern Puerto Deportivo marina is without doubt the "in" place to be for young trendies after the sun goes down. Many youngsters from Malaga head for the marina at Benalmadena on hot summer nights, swelling the ranks of foreign visitors who pack the seafront bars, restaurants, pubs and clubs.
At night the port's hi-tech lighting system subtly illuminates the entire area, adding to the appeal of this popular meeting place which is starting to give nearby Puerto Banus a run for its money.
Enjoy a cocktail, some local seafood tapas or a meal here before taking your pick of the many nightlife and entertainment venues which cater for hardened partygoers until sun-up. Many of the bars here have dance floors and live music, especially at weekends. One of the best known is Aqa - a tropical-style club with a big outdoor terrace. Note that a smart dress code is strictly enforced here. Other clubs in the port include Oh Marina and Mana; be prepared to pay well over the odds for drinks once inside.
The buzz behind Benalmadena's night life
A smaller quayside club is Cache which plays a good range of music and there's no entrance fee. It opens at 9pm and keeps going until the small hours.
The biggest concentration of clubs can be found in the busy Sol y Mar "24-hour" Square. One of the most popular is the Kiu which has three dance floors for latino, hard-core and chart music where the young at heart and strong of liver can party till 8am.
You'll find plenty of good shows around including an international cabaret show and Spanish flamenco at the five-star Torrequebrada Hotel on the edge of the town. The dinner show in the hotel's Fortuna nightclub is one of the best on the Costa del Sol.
The hotel also has a casino with 15 table games and 34 slots. It stays open until 4am (5am at weekends).
At British-run Buzby's Bar, on the coastal road opposite Hotel Villasol, you can enjoy live music and cabaret acts including comedians, impressionists and hypnotists.
El Elefante is a huge club in Plaza Bonanza Square where you get style variety acts along the lines of the "Wheel Tappers and Shunters Social Club". Wyn's Bar in the pueblo prides itself on finding off beat, live comedy acts.
For more family oriented evenings out try the live music and entertainment at the Peacock Tavern at Villa las Yuccas on Benalmadena Costa.
Or spend the evening at Tivoli where there are restaurants, wild west and flamenco shows until 1am.
For a more raunchy night out, try next door Torremolinos where you'll find a thriving gay scene, lap dancing bars and erotic shows with the emphasis on audience participation (not for the faint hearted!).
Or for glitz and glamour head west to swanky Puerto Banus where you can burn a hole in your pocket while mixing with the royals, the rich and the famous.
