Alicante provides an excellent range of holiday accommodation - you'll find everything here from top of the range five-star hotel facilities through to basic but well run "hostals" and "pensiones".
For five-star accommodation there's the Hotel Hesperia (Book Now) - perfect for golfers as it's right on the Alicante golf course.
The hotel, which is located in Avenida de las Naciones overlooking the main beach of Playa San Juan, has 122 double rooms and 34 suites. It's open all year round and provides a full range of facilities including two swimming pools (one heated) and a gymnasium.
There's easy access to the beach and the 18-hole golf course, designed by Spanish champion Severiano Ballesteros, is right on your doorstep
There's a Holiday Inn (Book Now) providing 4-star accommodation in Avenida Cataluña, also overlooking Playa San Juan. The hotel has 62 double rooms and four suites and is wheelchair friendly.
Other big modern 4-star hotels include the Mediterranea Plaza in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento (the town hall square) and the giant Hotel Melia which dominates the port area. The Melia's excellent facilities include satellite television and videos in every room and a disco. The hotel has 421 double rooms and 124 suites.
There are scores of other three, two and one star hotels throughout the city, along the beachfront and on the outskirts of Alicante. For "cheap and cheerful" accommodation look out for "hostal" or "pension" signs - this type of accommodation is usually clean and comfortable, mostly with en-suite bathrooms, and represents extremely good value for money. Such as the two star Rambla Hotel (Book Now).
There's a youth hostal housed in an attractive historic building within the city with easy access to all local amenities - shops, museums, bus services and beaches. The Albergue Juvenil La Florida offers cheap rate accommodation with discounts for guests under the age of 26. But all are welcome including families.
Or try one of the many campsites dotted along this stretch of coastline both to the north and south of the city.
One of the best equipped is La Marina, 24 kilometres south down the coast from Alicante and just 16 kilometres from the beautiful palm gardens of Elche (the biggest collection of palms in Europe).
The site offers bungalows and mobile homes, is close to the beach and has excellent facilities including individual plots with power, water and drainage, free hot water, a bar, restaurant, takeaway food, a supermarket and laundry. You can even get your English language daily newspapers and Internet access here!
The mild climate of this region enables campsites to remain open throughout the year. With heated toilet blocks, an endless supply of hot water and year-round sunshine camping is a fun and cheap way to enjoy the many attractions of this area both in and out of high season.
You'll find a plentiful supply of self catering apartments on the beachfront at Alicante and along the coastline to the north and south. Or rent a holiday villa with a private pool on the outskirts of the city - you'll get the freedom and comfort of your own home and it often works out cheaper than a holiday if you're traveling in a group.
