Orlando's Restaurants - Dining Guides
Competition is rife among Orlando's restaurants and the sheer choice of places to eat will make you feel dizzy. Every fast food chain on earth is over-represented here and 'family restaurants' with massive portions of traditional favourites and flashing neon signs flood any remaining space. Up market gourmet restaurants and ethnic eateries attempt to squeeze into the space in between.

At the Florida theme parks don't expect any really healthy eating options: burgers, pizza, turkey legs and greasy Italian pastas rule the roost and you can expect to stand in a long line just to get served. If you want to maximize your time in the parks, eat healthily and avoid losing that expensive meal right after the roller coaster ride you may want to bring your own snacks with you.
Outside the Florida theme parks you can eat heartily without great expense. Orlando's restaurants often have all-you-can-eat buffets and 'kids eat free' specials. Meat and seafood top the menus and you can expect Cuban, Creole and Mexican food in abundance. With the high concentration of meat and seafood dishes vegetarians may find their eating options pretty limited. Indian, Italian or Chinese restaurants offer the best choice for vegetarians while the theme parks prove the most difficult choice for meat-free eating.
Orlando's themed-experience focus encompasses many restaurants as well and themed dining rooms, waterfalls, smoking volcanoes and animatronics make their way into diners, gourmet restaurants and eating emporiums. One of the most novel dining experiences around is at the Rainforest Cafés where rather than dining you go on a'safari adventure' through a jungle setting where elephants and gorillas appear and clever lighting effects complete the experience. As with most things in Orlando a giant giftshop awaits you at the end of your safari.
If you're planning a special night out and want a fine dining experience there are plenty of options. Jiko at Disney's Animal Kingdom is an African-themed restaurant serving excellent African and Asian inspired food and a superb South African wine list. Bluezoo at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel is one of the hippest joints in town with its own celebrity chef and under-the-sea theme, while Tchoup Chop at Universal's Royal Pacific Resort is a gourmet haven serving Asian-Pacific fusion cuisine in a suitably lavish seating area around a mini lake.
