There are well over 40,000 rooms available in the Waikiki strip and range from budget accommodation to the swanky, luxurious hotel suites at the world's most prestigious hotels. The difficult part is making a choice from the enormous selection. The popular ones are always the first to go, so to avoid disappointment be sure to reserve your rooms before you get to Waikiki.
That being said it is relatively easy to find a room without pre-booking one; however it will probably not be your first choice. The up side of this huge selection is that it creates fierce competition, and as a result, Waikiki has some of the cheapest hotel rooms in the world!
Hotel choices range from dingy to deluxe. Most hotel rooms are quite ordinary yet comfortable. Be prepared to pay for luxury because it comes at quite a price. Hotels along the beach are slightly more expensive then their counterparts on the back streets. Although the beach front offers immediate access to the surf and good views, those a block away offer more peace and quite. Prices range from $50 a night to a high of well over $500 a night at one of the more extravagant hotels. The following recommendations are worth a look.
Recommended Waikiki Hotels
The Breakers (923-3181) is a friendly, family-orientated, two-storey hotel. It is located only minutes from the beach yet is isolated enough to offer guests peace and quiet from the bustle of Waikiki life. It is tastefully decorated and well kept with a complete kitchenette in every room. With its moderate price range, this hotel is seen as a winner.
Moving up a bit in price will get you a room at the Queen Kapiolani Hotel (922-1941). It has an off-strip location with magnificent views of Diamond Head. It is only seconds from the beach, has a spacious lobby, ample parking, a swimming pool and shops. Although it is not luxurious, it has all you need for a comfortable vacation with good value for money. The Aston Hotel Group also falls into this price range. The most exclusive hotels will set you back well over $250 a night. The Hilton Hawaiian Village (445-8667) is a first-rate resort. It is a 22 acre oasis in its own quite corner of Waikiki. You will never have to leave the resort!
