Sheraton Moana Surfrider
The Sheraton Moana Surfrider is more then just a luxury hotel; it boasts the title of the oldest standing hotel in Waikiki. Built in 1901, the Moana Surfrider is commonly referred to as "The First Lady of Waikiki" and occupies a central spot on Waikiki beach. This stylish and historic hotel combines the traditions of yesteryear with the trends and facilities of today.
Despite extensive restoration (about $50 million worth), the Victorian style of the hotel remains intact. This traditional elegance is evident in the main part of the hotel, known as the Banyan Wing. The Banyan Wing is easily recognizable from Kalakaua Avenue by its grand white row of pillars, regal banisters and archway picture windows. Many guests prefer staying in this older part of the hotel, as opposed to the modern towers that have been added to the Sheraton Moana Surfrider in recent decades.
Keeping with the hundred year old tradition, the main lobby looks like something out of the nineteenth century. With high ceilings, traditional Hawaiian artwork, antique furniture and luxurious settees, it is worth a look, even for non-guests. Like most hotels, the Moana is happy to allow curious travellers to take a peek at the historical building. When visiting the hotel be sure to visit the Banyan Tree in the courtyard, among one of the first to be listed on Hawaii's Rare and Exceptional Tree List.
Rooms are elegant and comfortable in both the Banyan Wing and the neighbouring towers. Although rooms in the Diamond Wing are more modern and luxurious, the Banyan Wing offers you that old-time charm. Rooms are equipped with all standard amenities and some with additions of antique furniture, traditional Hawaiian quilts and ocean view lanai. Prices are determined by location. The more you are prepared to pay, the better your view will be.
There is a pool and a private beach for guests' pleasure. Relax at the sparkling pool while your kids are in the capable care of the Keiki Aloha Programme at the Sheraton Waikiki. For those who prefer a little adventure, the beach offer limitless water sports and recreational activities.
Dining at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider will be just as memorable as the history that surrounds you. From traditional Hawaiian cuisine to contemporary favourites, from fresh seafood to great American classics, the options are enough to ensure the satisfaction of any appetite. Try a buffet brunch at the Beachfront Café with breathtaking views of Waikiki Beach, or dine under the Banyan tree at the Banyan Grill.
Whatever your tastes, stay at the Sheraton, and you will be part of history!
