The highlight of the sea park is the enormous 300 000 gallon aquarium that showcases a huge variety of Hawaiian reef life. There are over 2000 reef creatures that live here. The aquarium is surrounded by a spiral ramp that allows you to see the sea life from different depths. You will marvel at the magnitude of life under the sea. See eagle rays, sea turtles, hammerhead sharks, eels and thousands of colorful reef fish all living in harmony. For a little extra you may even get up close and personal with the wildlife and embark on a "Sea Trek", where visitors actually get into the aquarium.
Of course the wander does not stop there; the usual theme park entertainment is waiting to wow the family. And who better to provide the entertainment then the show-offs of the ocean, the dolphins? Dolphin Cove is an ocean-side lagoon with a private island and dolphin shows running twice a day. There is also a large glass tank called the Hawaiian Ocean Theatre in which you can watch the dolphin act from under the water or above. For an experience that you will always remember, enrol in "Splash U," a special program that lets you interact one on one with these friendly mammals.
There are many habitats in the Sea Life Park that show sea animals in the most natural way possible. Check out the Sea Lion and Harbour Seals pool, or laugh at the penguins as they plod along. Although these habitats provide lots of entertainment and fun for the visitors, they also play a very important role in marine conservation.
The Sea Turtle Lagoon is a breeding sanctuary for these endangered species. More then 2000 turtles have been born here and many of them are released back into the wild. The same happens with rare Hawaiian Monk Seals that are rescued from the wild or are abandoned as pups. After they have healed or reached maturity, the Hawaii Sea Life Park releases them back into their natural environment. The Seabird Sanctuary allows a rare glimpse at some of Hawaii's endangered birds. Look out for great frigate birds in amongst the albatrosses and sea-gulls.
Whether it is just to enjoy the ocean life or learn a little more about these amazing creatures, the Sea Life Park provides the opportunity. To find out more visit their website at www.sealifeparkhawaii.com
