Hotels on Oahu - Review

Other then Honolulu and Waikiki, hotels are pretty hard to come by. The large concentration of hotel rooms in Waikiki is the complete opposite to what the rest of Oahu has on offer. Other then a handful of notable resorts and hotels, most accommodation options include hostels, bed and breakfasts, camping and home rentals. These in themselves are adequate for the needs of most tourists who wish to stay in these more remote regions of Oahu.

The two most distinguished resorts or hotels in these regional areas are at opposite ends of the island. On the leeward side of the island, in the far southwest corner, is the idyllic resort/hotel the Marriott Ihilani Resort and Spa (Book Online Now) (679-0079). This luxurious hotel holds fifteen stories of spacious, state-of-the-art rooms, each equipped with high-tech devices to make guests feel as comfortable as possible. Watch a game on your personal wide-screen TV, or listen to music on the high-tech CD player. The air conditioning and lighting systems are even computerised for your convenience. The adjoining spa offers thalasso therapy and sauna facilities. For lovers of sport there is a rooftop tennis court and a world-class golf course to while away the hours in paradise.

Turtle Bay Resort (Book Onilne Now) (293-8811) is the only Oahu hotel offering luxury accommodation on the North Shore. This tropical getaway is self-sufficient, and you never have to really leave the grounds if you so choose. However, expect to pay for the privilege of the beautiful surroundings and top-notch facilities.

A more affordable, yet slightly unconventional, option is to stay at the Backpackers Vacation Inn (638-7838). Although this is not a luxury hotel, it is probably North Shore's best accommodation option. It specialises in budget accommodation for surfers, backpackers and families. The Inn is located on the shore of Three Tables Beach, between Waimea Bay and Waimea Village. The majority of accommodation on offer is hostel style bunks for backpackers. However, should you require a more private and up-market set up, the Inn is happy to oblige. Private rooms for two are available where you would share the bathroom and kitchen with another couple. Or, for a little more book a private studio on the beach. Studios come with private bathrooms and kitchenettes. The Backpackers Vacation Inn is often full, so it is advised that guests book well in advance, especially to secure the sought after studios on the beach.

Although there are not many hotels outside Waikiki and Honolulu, the accommodation available in the other regions of Oahu offer a homely, welcoming atmosphere. It is almost worth giving up luxury to feel at home!
