Oahu's Golf Courses - What's on Offer
Oahu's golf hot spots are definitely not in short supply with a wide variety of courses available on the island. However, the majority of them are private or semi-private clubs, so your only hope of teeing off at one of these is to be invited. Resort Golf Courses are very expensive and charge sometimes quite outlandish rental fees for a game.

Luckily, there are five good 18-hole municipal golf courses on Oahu. Though they are really popular, so ensure you book in plenty of time. The obvious favorite is Ala Wai Golf Course, which is located on the inland side of the Ala Wai Canal, near Waikiki.
The Ala Wai claims to be the busiest golf course in the world and is the only municipal course near Waikiki. The popularity of this course can be attributed to many factors, including its reasonable green fees, prime location, and the number of tourists in Waikiki. Local golfers who book earlier in the week tend to take up all the starting times, but patient visitors also get a change to tee off on Ala Wai. Visitors can put their names on a waiting list, and as long as the whole party waits together, they usually get a chance to golf before the day is over.
The next course that is particularly popular is The Ted Makalena Golf Course is in Waipahu. This flat course features water hazards coming into play on six holes, and views of the ships in Pearl Harbor.
Pali Golf Course is situated in Kaneohe. The main points of interest on this course are the panoramic hills that surround it. The Pali course also offers a practice green, a clubhouse with a restaurant and a lighted driving range.
Find yourself at Ewa Beach with nothing to do? The Ewa Villages course is equipped with many hazards to make for a very challenging golf game. This is the newest of the island's municipal courses.
Finally, West Loch Golf Course is located in Leeward Oahu on the south western edger of Waipahu town. It is a short, yet challenging course with a variety of water features.
Fees for all the above mentioned courses are less than half the price of the privately owned ones, with an optional extra fee for a gas-powered cart. If you left your golf clubs at home, fear not, clubs can be rented for a day. Advanced tee time reservations for all the municipal courses are accepted via an automated reservation system.
