You can choose either romantic, sophisticated accommodation or modest rooms in family households. Although bed and breakfasts vary greatly, they offer some of the best bargains on Oahu. Prices range from $50 at the lowest end of the spectrum to over $150 a night on exclusive properties. B&B's are an affordable yet comfortable and homely option for your stay on Oahu.
Hawaii has a state code that restricts the serving of home-cooked meals to visitors; so many bed and breakfasts only offer a continental breakfast and provide facilities where guests can cook their own meals. There are of course those that will make you a scrumptious greasy breakfast of bacon, eggs and hash browns; they just don't advertise it!
Most of Oahu's bed and breakfasts are small scale accommodation and only offer a few guests rooms. Same day reservations are very hard to come by, so it is very important that you book well in advance. A good B and B near Waikiki is Traditional Style B&B, a lovely older home situated in one of Oahu's best residential neighborhoods on the slopes of Diamond Head. Here you will find a gracious hostess and a room with the preserved charm of the Hawaiian lifestyle. There are two spacious rooms available both beautifully furnished and well equipped to meet your every need.
If you are looking for accommodation on the Windward coast look no further then Kaneohe Bay B&B situated right on the bay. The rooms are quite small but they open out to a spacious deck with a pool and a Jacuzzi. A great budget option is Sand Surf Cottage, just a few minutes walk from Kailua Beach and nearly half the price of the premium B&B's in the region.
The North Shore, Oahu's main surfing region, has its fair share of B&B's. A very affordable option is Ironwoods, close to Kawela Bay and the Turtle Bay Resort. This simple, rustic slit-level room is one of the most popular places to stay on the North Shore. It especially appeals to younger travellers on a budget. For a larger budget try Santa's by the Sea just north of Waimea Bay near the 'Pipeline'. This ground level apartment offers and beachfront gazebo and full kitchen.
