Edinburgh – Scotch Whisky Trail

Most people are aware that Scotland is the home of true Scottish Whisky. What I was not aware of is that they have Scotch Whisky Trails for tourists. We have no information about the Whisky Trail on our website but the TOURIST INFORMATION section for Weekends in Edinburgh has an interesting recommended reading list which includes a complete guide for single malt scotch.

Scotch Whisky is to Scotland what Champagne is to France – true Scotch Whisky can only come from Scotland just as true Champagne can only come from France. You see, the secret lies in the water and the unique taste of the Whisky apparently is determined by many ingredients but the most important ingredient is the water.
Scotland’s legendary spirits, the malt whiskies have been produced for centuries in the Scottish lowlands and highlands. The original malt whiskies or Uisge Beatha, which is Gaelic for water of life, is still been produced today.

The Scotch Whisky Trails (and there are many) to the lowland distilleries are an easy day trip from Edinburgh. Our website (INDIGOGUIDE) has contact details of the Edinburgh Tourist Information Centre for further information on the trails. While you are on this page, check out the other activities we recommend for a weekend in Edinburgh. You can also contact the Scotch Whisky Association in Edinburgh on: + 44 (0)131 222 9200 or click on THE SCOTCH WHISKY ASSOCIATION and check out the details of the Whisky Trail on their website.

What to do in Edinburgh

During a short break in Edinburgh we took a guided tour one cold November night. The tour known as the ‘Witchery Murder and Mystery Tour’ takes you through dark alleyways and secluded courtyards of the city of Edinburgh. It encompasses tales of violent crimes and vivid descriptions of hangings and haunting tales of witchcraft. This was a worth while tour because it was scary enough to excit the kids but not too scary that you could not consider taking them with. I found this site useful:

If spooky night tours are not for you then try Edinburgh Castle - its really worth it! I have been to many castles in the UK and this one is a must. Another great experience is the world famous Edinburgh International Festival which is on every year in August and September. Some of the impromptu skits are brilliant - I experienced this first hand as well about 3 years ago. There must be a lot more tales to be told about Edinburgh. What can you offer?
