Ryder Cup Winners

I am glad that the Ryder Cup is over because the TV at home has been owned by golf for a while now. Actually it was really exciting wasn’t it?

Well done to Europe for achieving their fifth win out of six matches! I recon if you are either in Ireland now or are planning to travel there soon, you should get caught up in the after celebrations. After all, what are pubs in Ireland for if not to celebrate great victories? Why not take advantage and do the Ultimate Irish Pub Crawl? There is certainly no shortage of them in Dublin.

Cheers everyone :-)

Ireland 2006 Ryder Cup

I am sure most the Golf fanatics out there are aware that the 2006 Ryder Cup is taking place at the prestigious Kildare Golf and Country Club in Kildare. The Ryder Cup is taking place between the 22nd and 24th September so if you plan to visit Ireland around that time, I suggest that you book your Flights to Dublin and Accommodation asap.

Between Ryanair, Aer Lingus, Fly Be, BMI and BMI baby you have quite a choice depending on where you are flying from in the UK. Ryanair really offers the most flights though from and to the most destinations.

Aer Arann which is apparently one of the fastest growing regional airlines in the world, operates over 500 flights a week across 16 UK destinations. Depending on where you are flying from and to, it may be worth your while keeping their details. It certainly is not an airline that would have popped into my head.

Getting back to the Ryder Cup - if you are based in Europe and have not yet arranged your trip, it could be too late for you. However, Ryder Cup packages (including accommodation, transfers, tickets etc.) were available from Ryder Cup Travel Services, the official agents of the European Tour. I believe all the tickets are sold but who knows?? I know accommodation is still available so give it a go.

Dublin by Ferry

Looking for something interesting to do over a long weekend? Consider doing Dublin by ferry. Take a glance at our website for information on getting to Dublin. Click here for details about traveling from Holyhead to Dublin. You can get a great package deal if you travel from Holyhead to Dublin. For more specific costs I find this website, aferry.to easy to use.

Once you hit Dublin there are tons of things to do in the city. If you want to go off the beaten track then I suggest that you take your car to Dublin on the Ferry. Once in Dublin explore the pubs by night but by day I recommend that you take a drive to what the Irish call ‘the Garden of Ireland’ and it is only 30 miles south of Dublin.

The Wicklow Mountains are a major beauty spot for lovers of Nature. Along with the natural beauty you can check out or even stay at the Tinakilly Country House in Rathnew, Wicklow. The hotel is a 19th-century country manor house. The lobby’s staircase is a replica of a ship and is a dream hotel for all who love everything nautical. If you are a romantic this is the place to woo your dream boat partner. If you are into golf, Wicklow has around 23 golf courses and if you love birds then you can venture into the Broadlough Bird Sanctuary. With the money you save by traveling on the ferry you could spend a night of bliss in this quaint nautical hideaway.

If you feel that our website should provide more information like this, then please let me know?

Take a weekend break to Dublin and visit the National Museum of Ireland. You will find the museum 4 miles east of Castlebar off the N5. It is situation just outside the Village of Turlough.

Why you may ask? Well the remains of two apparently wealthy men from the Iron Age were found and have been placed in their new home, which is the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin’s fair city. It is apparently worth the trip if you are interested in ‘Bog Bodies’ and its history.

You may have heard of the findings of ‘bog bodies’. These are the human remains found in Bogs around Northern Europe and Ireland. The bodies are well preserved by the peat found in bogs. Bog bodies are surmised to be the victim’s of human sacrifice by the Roman Iron Age people or often just people being punishment for perceived crimes such as homosexuality. People who died in bogs usually met with violent deaths.

The two men recently uncovered have been named after the areas they were found in, Old Croghan Man (found in May 2003) and Cloneycavan Man (found in Feb 2003). If you want to investigate the place that they were found then take a trip to Cloneycavan which is in Ballivor, County Meath and the other was found Croghan just 25 miles from Cloneycavan.

From the findings they can tell that the men were more than likely tortured to death around 2300 years ago. It amazes me how they can tell so much from remains.

The BBC apparently ran a documentary (on Timewatch) about them on the 20th of January. If you missed it then I guess you will have to take a trip to Ireland and see the real thing. Other interesting sites to visit while you are there: Trinity College and the Irish Museum of Modern Art or just browse our website Indigoguide for more information.

In Dublins fair city

If you intend spending the weekend in Dublin for a city break, here is some info to consider. Ireland changed all road signs from imperial to metric measurements in January 2005. Also, it is best to carry some form of photo identification when you travel between the UK and Ireland. I know this sounds silly but you do get asked to produce it sometimes at the airport.

Dublin is such a great mix of the old an new. On the OLD side you still get the odd horse-drawn carts riding through the city giving you that feeling of ‘way back when’ when you hear the clip clop, clip clop on the old cobbled streets. There is also that ‘oh so Irish’ sound made by people busking with their fiddles. On the NEW side you can enjoy all that which modern cities have to offer in the form of clubs, designer shops and trendy bars.

If you have any comments, speak up! It gets lonely talking to yourself you know.
