Air Berlin - New Flights

I mentioned yesterday in my blog that Air Berlin has started new low cost flights to Malaga. I though I would just add more information for you.

Air Berlin is the third largest low-cost airline in Europe. On May 2nd 2006 they launched flights from Belfast City Airport to 7 new destinations around Europe. This will be run from Stansted Airport in London as Air Berlins base is at Stansted. These will be scheduled flights leaving every morning and evening on week days and a flight on Saturday and Sunday as well.

Air Berlin intends providing this service for both business people and holiday clients. The cost is said to be from £19 one way from Belfast to Stansted and £29 from Stansted to most European destinations. The destinations include; Northern Ireland, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Hanover, Leipzig, Munster/Osnabruck, Nuremberg, Paderborn and Vienna.

The best thing about this low-cost airline is that you still get full service. They offer free food and drinks, air miles, baggage transfers for connecting flights and flight flexibility. You can book directly with Air Berlin online or you can use the travel agents or book by phone: 0870 738 88 80. One of my biggest problems with flying low cost is that you have to either buy food before you board or you are stuck with the food they offer (very limited choice I might add) and the prices are extortionate.

What say you?

Berlin Love Parade 2006

I just realised that it is worth mentioning to all the street ravers, that the 2006 Berlin ‘Love Parade’ is back on this year after being canceled due to lack of funding during 2004/5.

Flights to Berlin are a-plenty because of where the city is situated. You can connect to Berlin from so many countries on the continent. You also have the choice of three airports to land at namely; Tegel, Schönefeld and Berlin-Tempelhof.

Accommodation in Berlin is usually a walk in the park price wise because Germany’s prices are amongst the most favourable in Europe. They also have a great variety of Hotels to select from.

As far as accommodation is concerned, I think you should book in advance this year because there are two major events taking place within a week of each other - The Love Parade and the Football World Cup.

Berlin is a very popular destination in Germany year round so if you plan on being there during the July ‘Love Parade’ (the worlds largest techno gathering) then booking in advance is essential. The Love Parade has drawn an estimated 1.5 million people in the past and with it being cancelled for the last two years, I recon it will be well attended again this year because some people may still not be over their ‘Love Parade’ withdrawal symptoms. The parade is going to be held on July 15th, 2006 which is just one week after the Football World Cup, so accommodation is going to be a challenge in my opinion.

OK that’s me on Berlin for now. Let us know what information you want on Berlin? I think we need to do more - what do you think?

Berlin for Classical lovers

June through to September is a good time to visit Berlin for many reasons but why I am selecting these months in particular is to hi-light to classical music lovers that its worth visiting Berlin’s Philharmonie am Kulturforum to see one of the worlds premier Orchestra’s in action ‘Berliner Philharmoniker‘ Orchester. If you follow the link, you can book tickets on line. We recommend the Berliner Festwochen in September.

I am sure loads of you out there know this already but for those who don’t, allow me to explain. The Kulturforum is a concert hall built in the 1960’s and designed by Hans Scharoun. It seats 2400 people and is regularly sold out (so book asap). The stage is surrounded by nine levels of seats and the audience can enjoy unmatched visibility. Not a single seat is more than 100 feet away from the stage. That is wow! The acoustics and visibility together with the excellent entertainment offered by the orchestra make this place a must for classical music lovers visiting Berlin. The address: Kemperplatz, Herbert-von-Karajan-Strasse 1 in the Tiergarten sector.
