Unfortunately Molokai's airport is not geared up to support international flights and flights directly from the mainland. When it comes to traveling to Molokai from "out of Hawaii " the first port of call is Honolulu International Airport. Passengers from here are then required to catch an "inter-island flight" i.e. one of the air-buses operated by Hawaiian Airlines / Island Air. Visitors from Maui, Lanai and Kauai and Oahu also have access to services provided by Hawaiian Airlines / Island Air.

When it comes to organizing Molokai travel arrangements, specifically between it and the Island of Maui, there is another alternative to flying. A ferry (more like a yacht!) runs a daily service between Lahaina Harbor (Maui) and Kaunakakai Wharf (Molokai). For information on times and other details please click here - Ferry.

Once You Have Arrived

The island is full of places to explore and most people resort to turning to a car rental company. Having a hire car means you are not governed by schedules, destinations or time limits. You have complete independence to discover the island at your leisure, and because a single arterial highway runs from one side of the island to the other, navigating between destinations is fairly simple. One piece of advice that we will give you is that there are VERY few car rental companies based on Molokai, especially during peak season and during public holidays, so we strongly recommend booking your chariot in advance! There are sections that deal with car rental and rentals, which provide more detailed information including contact and booking details. To access these sections please click on the relevant links.

Unfortunately for those that are restricted from driving there are no metered taxi services on the island. What local services that do exist, charge set fees - Island Kine (808-553-5242) and Molokai Off-Road Tours and Taxi (808-553-3369). These private companies will usually meet your flight at the airport and provide a roof-rack to cart any equipment, such as surfboards and kayaks, around the island.

Before confirming your Molokai travel plans you should also be aware that there is NO form of public transport service on the island. This includes any type of bus service.
