The remainder of the island is home to resorts, condos and vacation rentals.
The Hotel Molokai (808-553-5347) is on the outskirts of Kaunakakai and sports a unique architectural design. The "A-frame" structure is typical of the Polynesian-style of building, and compliments the hotels prime beach setting. This is definitely one of the more affordable Molokai hotels / places to stay - but it still carries a number of attractive and appealing features. The rooms, though simple, come with their own private lanai and fully equipped kitchen (in case you want to eat in). Guests do have the option of eating out in the hotel's dinning room, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. In the evenings guests and visitors alike make their way down to the Ocean Front Lounge which is a very much "happening" outside bar.
The Castle Kaluakoi Villas (808-545-3510) is a hotel on the west coast with a somewhat greater emphasis on condo rental. All 140 of the units (this includes some studio apartments) are adorned in traditional Hawaiian décor - colourful, simple, homey, and of course how could we forget to mention the private lanais complete with ocean view. With regards to amenities, the units all have TV/VCR and a ceiling fan, as well as a fully functional kitchenette for those nights in. For most people on vacation though, the last thing they want to do is cook - so why no try the restaurants at the Kaluakoi Resort? Guests have access the to championship Kaluakoi Golf Course and horse riding, snorkeling and hiking adventures await you at the Molokai Ranch which is only a few miles away.
When it comes to Molokai "hotels" Ke Nani Kai Resort (808-552-2761) on the west end of the island is definitely worth looking into. It is similar to the Castle Villas in that it follows a condo rental set up - 120 units all with their own veranda and ready-to-go kitchens. In keeping with the island feel, wicker furniture and cool tropical colours flow through the rooms. The outdoor pool provides the perfect spot for a bit of sunbathing, and for those with a flare for adventure there are hiking and water sports available. The resort also borders on the same championship golf course, and is complimented by other amenities such as the jet spa and tennis courts.
The Paniolo Hale (808-552-2731) is our last recommendation. With discounted weekly rates this classy set of seafront condominiums are definitely good value. The complex extends over two floors and has a definite "ranch-homestead" feel to it, which is emphasized by the airy design, wooden floors and sheltered lanais. As with the previous resort, The Hale is also located in the west, more specifically on the sands of Kepuhi Beach.
