It is a good family resort with plenty of activities to keep both the kids and parents occupied. Shopping malls and markets are right across the street or within easy walking distance so there is always plenty to do. The other option is, of course, lazing by the poolside bar over looking the beach or sunbathing on the beach itself.

The hotel boasts 684 rooms in total which are spread between two buildings; one fifteen storey main building and one six storey annex. Rooms are moderately but well decorated with all the standard holiday essentials such as air conditioning, mini-bars, liquor dispensers, private bathroom with shower, hairdryer, safety deposit boxes, direct dial phone, satellite TV and a balcony. Junior suites also feature a living room area. There are three restaurants with one serving buffet food.
Riu Cancun keeps its guests amused with a range of entertainment from live shows and music to fireworks and afternoon films. A chauffeur-type service is also available whereby hotel staff accompany guests out to local nightclubs. This not only provides you with transport back to the hotel but also a very handy guide for the night.
The downside to the beautiful beach and pool area is that the sun tends to disappear behind the massive hotel building in the afternoon. The shade may be welcome in some cases but it does mean the pools can get a bit cold and, for those who like to lie on the beach all day, it may mean having to move. The other thing to look out for is the rocks that lurk in the shallows just off the beach; however, the clear blue color of the water means spotting them isn't all that difficult.
