Vacation packages to Mexico

Vacation packages to Mexico are an effective way to save yourself time and money. Most package deals are relatively flexible and allow you a wide range of choices when it comes to timing, accommodation and vacation activities.

Package deals usually combine flights, accommodation and taxes into a bundle and offer the package at a far cheaper rate than if travellers were to book each component independently. Some packages also include meals and activities as well as transfer fees to and from hotels. If you plan to explore local restaurants and bars, avoid all inclusive hotel deals or accept that you will lose some value by eating out. These usually include three meals a day which may be more economical, but will limit your choice of cuisine to that offered by hotel bars and restaurants.

The best place to start looking for package deals is undoubtedly on the Internet. Many online tour companies such as Opodo, Expedia, Travelocity and Thomas Cook offer package deals at hotels in most major destinations such as Cancun, Acapulco, Puerta Vallarta and Cozumel. Major Mexican airline Aeromexico also offers year round package deals to major destinations, as do America Airlines and Alaska Airlines. If you plan to book through an airline, contact them directly or check your local paper. Package deals to smaller destinations are less common and in most cases you are better off planning travels off the beaten track independently.

The best time to look for great value deals is during the high season from around Christmas until late March when flights are fuller and locations busier. Competition between travel agents is stiff at this time and therefore you are likely to find great deals. Make sure that you shop around and check exactly what you are getting for your money. Different operators may offer accommodation at the same hotel at different prices and the last thing that you want to do is book a package only to discover that you could have gotten it for $100 cheaper through someone else.

If possible, try to check the location of hotels and precisely what they offer before booking your package. Two operators may offer accommodation at the same price, but one may be in a three-star resort on the beach and another in a one-star hotel near the bus station.

Finally, one thing to make sure you do before booking your package is to carefully scour the fine print on package offers for cancellation policies. Most vacation package suppliers charge astronomical cancellation fees, so it is advisable to be 100% sure of the dates you want to travel before committing yourself to a Mexico vacation package.
