Nightlife in Cancun, Mexico is aimed at attracting as many tourists as possible so visitors are spoiled for choice. Nightclubs are not the only choice for evening entertainment with piano lounges, dinner cruises, live shows and bars providing a lavish selection of venues for all occasions. Punta Cancun is the hub of nighttime life on the small island whereas downtown (Ciudad Cancun) offers a more diverse range of clubs where you can mingle with the locals and dance to both traditional and modern South American music.

Nightclubs:
Coco Bongo is, without a doubt, the most widely frequented clubs in the Zona Hotelera. It is also one of the biggest with multiple levels, huge amount of dance space and music that should just about cover all tastes. DJ's and live bands play rock, techno and Latin. Elaborately themed parties are a specialty. The club opens at 10pm and keeps going through till the early hours of the morning.
La Boom is next in line for trendy mega-clubs on the small island of Cancun. It is known for being a European-style club, though the most European thing about it is the red British phonebox by the front door. It does have a very eclectic range of music with rock, indie, techno and various other adventurous sounds. One of its best features is the terraced 'chill out' area overlooking the lagoon.
Dady'O is most popular with college kids on spring break. It is a huge venue with themed parties and lots of noise. Next door is the Dady Rock featuring live music and a bar-restaurant. Ma'ax'o is another in the Dady'O family but with a more contemporary style, featuring mostly techno music and a light show.
Azucar offers the best place on the island to sample nightlife the Mexican way. With top bands from Cuba, Puerto Rico and Venezuela this is the place to show of off your best salsa moves, or learn some new ones.
Clubs in Cancun, Mexico can be an expensive affair so expect to pay between $15 and $25 for entrance and upwards of $5 for drinks. Most bars and clubs in the tourist areas accept credit cards.

This is a good way to get a taste for the best of Cancun nightlife as you are taken by bus to about five top bars and clubs. It costs around USD$50 per person but this price includes entrance into each club (skipping the queue) and one welcome drink at each. Typically you will spend about an hour at each club.
Dinner cruises:
These are not quite clubbing experiences but the Captain Hook's (pirate ship) and Cancun Queen (old stern-wheeled riverboat) can be fairly loud and boisterous with shows and live music. The Columbus Lobster Dinner Cruise is a more sedate and romantic experience.
Live Shows:
Mango Tango restaurant attracts a young, lively crowd with its sizzling live floor shows and music. Ballet Folclorico is a live show offering a spectacular demonstration of dance, song and bright costumes based on the history of Mexico. Teatro de Cancun is similar to the Ballet but covers a broader range of cultures and traditions from Mexico to Cuba and Venezuela.
