How you travel Maui is entirely up to you. This page reviews the various options available to you providing contact details where possible.
Firstly all you people who are hoping to travel around Maui on buses and other forms of public transport, think again! The island does not have one in place. That said let us continue.
The most common way visitors travel Maui is via a rental car. The prices are fairly reasonable, but the extra you might pay is made up by the convenience and flexibility they provide. The Island boasts a number of well known companies and there are also a few local ones that offer a reliable service. For more information please visit or section on Car Rentals.
Traveling over Maui sometimes throws more at you than a rental car can physically handle. There are few off-road sites that are worth visiting which require the use of four-wheel drive. In the rainy season, however, these vehicles sometime become classed as mandatory - especially if you plan venturing up the volcano or to Hana. Four-wheel drives can be rented from most car rental companies.
An alternative form of transport when traveling Maui is a motorcycle or scooter. These are great if you are staying in some of the islands small settlements because they are quick and able to nip in and out of traffic. The other advantage to these is that during peak season, you will be able to probably be able to find parking a whole lot easier. Some good places to start in Lahaina are Mavrik's (808-661-3099) and Hawaiian Riders (808-662-4386.) If you are further down the coast near Kihei then we suggest popping into Island Riders (808-874-0311.)
Sports cars anyone? If you are looking at traveling Maui's roads in something a little flashier than the average rental Car Company can provide, such as a Ferrari, Dodge Viper, or Porsche then once again we suggest Island Riders (808-874-0311.) Another good vendor is Aloha Toy Store (808-662-0888.) Please bear in mind that these beauties could cost you up to $400 - and that is per day!
