Maui Luaus - Reviews
Maui's Luaus are an essential part of the Hawaiian culture and it is strongly recommended that you attend one if you have the opportunity. The West part of island is home to two of the best. The Old Lahaina Luau is the first on our list.
On arriving you are greeted with a friendly smile and a lei, after which you move to the open bar and receive a complimentary Mai Tai. The ocean front setting has a number of thatched hales and local craftspeople present their wares just meters from the sea.
A truly remarkable experience, at The Old Lahaina Luau you will be served traditional Luau delicacies including kalua pig, lomi salmon guava chicken, fresh island fish and a lot more, whilst seated on lauhala mats (there are tables for those who prefer.) But what really separates this Luau from others is the degree to which the show tries to capture a truly authentic Hawaiian feel - we are talking true perfectionists. The show includes a representation of hula from ancient and missionary times all the way through to today's modern hula. The hula's progression and survival is expertly narrated throughout the course of the show. People are only disappointed by the lack of fire dancers. Our second recommendation is the Feast At Lele. One of the best features of this feast is its location: on tiered tables right next to the Lahaina beach. The show and hula are a lot of fun, and the food is legendary with a number of Hawaiian, Tongan, Tahitian, and Samoan dishes. Book quickly on 808-667-5353.
Our final suggestion is the Maui luau hosted by the Hyatt Regency. The show is definitely a lot more flash than the other two - which critics believe detracts from its authenticity. Though located next to the beach, some people will disappointed that you cannot actually see the ocean from you table.
