Maui Accommodation - Lodging & Hotel Guides

Maui's Accommodation comes in all sorts of shapes, sizes and prices. For many this is the aspect that will make or break your vacation, so it is therefore important to spend enough time before hand planning your visit.

Other people see their accommodation as a mere base of operations, a place to sleep when they have exhausted themselves from trying new water sports, going on hikes and generally just taking advantage of the outdoors.

There are five main types of accommodation available on the Island of Maui:

  • Hotels
  • Bed and Breakfasts
  • Resorts
  • Condos
  • Home rentals

A large proportion of the visitors to Maui prefer the luxury resorts, hotels and condos. Hotels are perfect if you want to be completely waited on hand and foot - they have no kitchenettes, and no kitchens means no cooking or washing up, giving you more time to experience the island. Condos usually do have kitchens fitted, and are generally more roomy and self contained, providing complete privacy. Most condos do have a maid service - but it is sometimes quite sporadic so some days you just might find yourself making those hospital corners!

Often people flock to Maui in large groups. If this is the case, then when it comes to accommodation we strongly suggest renting a vacation home. These are cheaper as the house usually comes at a fixed rental cost, this is then distributed amongst the total number of people staying - therefore the more staying the cheaper it works out per individual. The cleaning, cooking etc is done by the temporary tenants and often a deposit is asked for to safeguard the home owner from any vandalism.

Some might ask when it comes to accommodation, what the difference between a hotel and a resort is? Well in short a resort provides all the services a hotel does and then some! Resorts have those affluent extras such as overgenerous swimming pools each with their own poolside bar, spas and fitness centers, golf courses, direct access beaches that are dotted with cabanas, activity programs and a whole lot more. These extras do however result in a considerable difference between the price of a hotel and the price of a resort.

The last type of place to stay is at a good old Bed and Breakfast. The amount of these to choose from is considerable and each has its own distinctive character. Be sure that the one you choose on matches your own preferences. For example do you want to sit round a singular dinning table and eat with the other guests, owners and possibly the owner's family? Or do you prefer something a little more private? Most people do however choose a bed and breakfast, simply because of their unique atmospheres and personal feel (not to mention they are less dear than other places to stay on the island)
