The Fortina Hotel at Sliema Beach Malta

The Fortina Hotel (www.hotelfortina.com) has recently been absorbed into the new Fortina Spa Resort Complex developed on the beachfront of Sliema. The area was once the retreat of Maltese aristocracy and the sense of this being a place reserved for the upper classes is still apparent. The Fortina Hotel does nothing if not encourage this feeling of exclusivity by offering serious luxury with the prices to match. It was the first resort on the island to offer Thalasso Therapy treatments centring on the application of seawater as part of the all-inclusive package and this superiority comes at a steep price.

The Fortina Spa Resort Complex cleverly manages to conceal the fact that there's large-scale building work in operation. The new tower block will increase the hotels capacity from 210 to 350 bedrooms and up its status from 4 to 5*. The hotel's Beauty Centre has existed as long as the hotel itself but the new Spa Sante has only recently opened its doors. Depending on the status of your room in the hotel, entrance to the Spa Sante may be included in the rate; otherwise you can pay a supplement to enjoy the facilities. The Spa Sante is the perfect place for de-stressing, de-toxifying and generally relaxing. Tropical rain showers, reflexology basins, an aqua meditation room, a post sauna ice grotto are just a few of the many sections of the spa. Every guest is given 2 free fifteen-minute treatments in the Thalassotherapy pool each day, which consists of a series of exercises in water against the power of the jets.

The least expensive standard rooms have all the facilities you'd expect from a hotel of this quality. However, the view from the hotel over the harbour is spectacular and it is worth paying a bit more to see the constant zigzagging of boats and water activities and, directly opposite, Valletta's impressive historical skyline. If you want king-sized beds, free mini-bar and fruit, and a 'lounge' section, you'll need to upgrade to the deluxe Jacuzzi rooms.

An all-inclusive stay at The Fortina Hotel is a leap above your normal hotel package. The huge selection of restaurants and bars are all excellent quality in terms of décor, service and fare. The health and beauty treatments offered by the state of the art spa is a haven of relaxation dedicated to meeting your every need.
