La Residencia
This hideaway in the island's north-west is a beautiful jumble of 16th and 17th century buildings above the village of Deia and deserves a place in any list of the top five Mallorca hotels. These converted manor houses have been decorated in a contemporary Majorcan style, and some suites have their own pools. The first of Mallorca's great hotels, this was built in 1929 and sits in a remarkable 3,000 acres on the Formentor Peninsula in the far north of the island. Gran Son Net
This bright pink, boutique hotel is in the Serra de Tramuntana in the south-west corner of the island. Converted from a 17th -century chapel, it has just 25 rooms, and its art collector owner has put in works by Hockney, Christoph, Warhol and Chagall. Rooms are large, bathrooms are marble, and the design is classic Majorca with white walls, natural stone floors and rustic wood beams.
