Palma Airport Majorca - Mallorca Travel Destinations Spain
Palma airport - known locally as Son Sant Joan and officially as Palma de Majorca International (PMI) - is the third-busiest airport in Spain, dealing with 10 million passengers a year, and more than 100,000 a day in peak season.
It's a modern airport eight kilometres east of Palma, and scores well on most criteria. There is quite a distance between gates and departure/arrival halls, however, so when flying out of Palma airport, you should allow plenty of time to reach your gate.
There is just a single terminal, with four concourses: A, B, C and D. The arrivals hall is downstairs and the departures hall upstairs.
Facilities are what you would expect from a thrusting international airport: 24-hour first aid, 24-hour bureaux de change, banks, restaurants and bars. As for shops, alongside the traditional duty-free, there are stores selling toys, shoes, jewellery, flowers, sweets, gifts, clothing and leather goods.
Buses and taxis will drop you off at the check-in floor, which has almost 200 desks. After checking in you should proceed to the boarding area on the fourth floor. For business travellers there are three VIP lounges
When you arrive at Palma airport, there are car rental offices by the luggage carousel, and you need to head into the arrival halls itself for ATMs and the tourist office, which is beside the 'Puente de Encuentra' (Meeting Point) sign. It is open from 9am to 2pm and from 3pm to 8pm during the week, and from 9am to 2pm on Saturdays. There is a bus map in the window for use if the office is closed.
Getting there and away
If you want to take a taxi, head to gate D of the arrivals hall to find the taxi rank. There are fixed price rates to all parts of the island and it's around 15 to 20 euros to Palma.
Alternatively, buses depart from nearby: bus No 1 shuttles between the city and Palma airport, leaving every 15 minutes and costing around 2 euros. Departures from the airport leave between 6.10am and 2.15am, every 15 minutes. The bus goes to Plaza España, then on to the ferry terminal. Departures from Palma towards the airport leave between 5.40am and 2.30am, also every 15 minutes.
