Holidays in Majorca - Mallorca Travel Destinations Spain

Luxury Breaks

Stay in the Palacio Ca Sa Galesa (www.palaciocasagalesa.com) in Palma, one of the most luxurious hotels in Mallorca, a converted 15th -century townhouse with views of both the old town and the sea from the rooftop terrace. Antiques and Persian rugs populate the rooms, most of which have spa baths. Drive down to Portals Nous for a afternoon's yacht-gazing followed by dinner at the memorable Koldo Royo restaurant and cocktails at Abaco.

Rural Retreats

To get away from the tourists on your Mallorca holidays, head to the central plains. The Villa Can Alegre (available through www.circumvista.com) is an old Majorcan country house sleeping five, reached via a two-kilometre track in the countryside near Manacor. Spend days exploring the farmland and vineyards of the central plains, then drive up to the Serra de Tramuntana for some hiking.

Family Holidays

If you've come with your offspring, stay in Puerto Pollensa, which is quieter than the mega resorts of the south-west and the east coast, and which has a sloping beach suitable for children. Spend a day visiting the underground caverns at the Coves del Drac and Coves d'es Ham, and another at Aquacity water park. Sleep at the Hotel Uyal (www.hoposa.es) which looks straight out over the beach and perfect the art of sandcastle-making.

Active Breaks

If the thought of a week lying on a beach makes you shiver, you might consider one of the multi-sport packages that can add a measure of zip to your Mallorca holidays. Tall Stories (www.tallstories.co.uk) run a week of adrenaline-fuelled activity from an inn in Alcúdia. You can choose between three and five of their principal escapades - coasteering, canyoning, sea kayaking, diving, snorkelling and sailing - and supplement this with biking, hiking, riding or surfing.

Unbridled Hedonism

If you're British and you want a holiday combining sun, sea and partying, then Magaluf ticks all the boxes. It is easily reachable from Palma airport, and you can stay in a decent, central apartment block such as the Vista Sol (www.solmelia.com) for a reasonable sum. After days lying by the pool, by the beach or at the water parks of Aquacity and Western Water Park, spend nights checking out the bars and early dawns wading through the foam at BCM's nightclub.
