There are 18 Majorca golf courses, with more being developed, and it's a simple matter for a visiting player to enjoy a round.
If yours is not a serious golfing holiday, there is no need to bring your own clubs because they can usually be hired at the courses. You should, however, bring a handicap certificate if you have one: you might not be asked to produce it in order to book a tee time, but it will not harm your chances. In the fashion stakes, you should leave your T-shirt and swimming trunks in the car; collared shirt and 'tailored' shorts are usually required.
Among the best courses on Majorca are:
Golf Son Vida (971 79 12 10) 13 kilometres east of Palma. This was the first Majorca golf course, built in 1964, and is still considered the best by some.
Golf de Bendinat (971 40 52 00) five kilometres from Palma with terrific sea views. This hilly course is set among the pine trees.
Golf de Santa Ponça (971 69 02 11). This flat course is one of the island's championship courses and has water hazards on five of the holes.
Golf Andratx (971 23 62 80). T his course only opened in 2000 and is the most expensive on the island. It has a wonderful position by the sea and is tricky rather than difficult.
Pula Golf (971 81 70 34) near Son Servera. Difficult, narrow fairways make this one of the most challenging courses on the island. It was redeveloped in 2001.
If you just want to hit some balls without the formality of playing a round, there are driving ranges and putting greens attached to most Majorca golf courses. For something even more down to earth, mini golf is bit of a Majorcan phenomenon and there are 'courses' in many of the resorts.
