Apartments are given a one-, two- or three-key rating. This is judged according to an over-simplified checklist of facilities, so do not read too much into it. A wonderful apartment will only be two keys if it lacks a direct dial telephone; a grotty room of the right size with the right phone will have three keys.
Bookings for apartments in Magaluf are usually made through tour operators who will block-book apartment complexes from one season to the next. You can try approaching the apartments directly, but may have little luck. Apartments will usually be rented out on a weekly basis with a tight change-over from one group to the next: so do not expect to be able to lounge around in your room until Saturday evening if you have a late flight.
Rental prices sometimes relate to the number of bedrooms in an apartment rather than the number of inhabitants. This means that four people sharing two double beds can pay the same in total as two people with a bed each.
An apartment will usually not be cleaned during the week. If you want services, you would be better off staying in one of the 'aparthotels', which combine the self-catering facilities of an apartment with the daily cleaning and reception offered at a hotel.
