Types of Shows - More in this category > Comedy Shows > Show Girls > Adult Shows > Variety Performance > Celine Dion > Impersonator Shows >Trade Shows >Top Magic ShowsA variety show is defined as a show which consists of a bunch of short and unrelated performances. This is different from a play which normally has a continuing story. Here is a sampling of some of the variety shows available in Las Vegas.
At the Stratosphere you can see American Superstars. This is a very fast paced show which includes impersonations of acts such as Madonna, the Spice Girls (I know, they’re not American but still!) and many more celebrities. There are many cutting edge dance numbers performed by some of the best talent staying in Las Vegas. You can also ask for a dinner show option either before or after the show.
One of the most famous shows in Las Vegas is the Jubilee show at Bally’s. It has now been going for 20 years and has won many awards. There is a cast of hundreds that dance, sing and perform speciality acts. The director creates some spectacular sequences with amazing sets, special effects and costumes. It’s worth pointing out that this does feature some topless showgirls so its not for children.
Interesting facts about the show include the fact that the set has 100,000 light bulbs on the set which cost £50,000 to maintain. The power used by the show could be enough to provide a small down of a thousand people with electricity. The set pieces include 125 miles of wire. The headdresses worn are very heavy, with one weighing 35 pounds. Talking of headdresses, it takes two women 75 each week to maintain the 325 wigs used for the show, and 1,500 tights are used every year.
Another show, at the Riviera, is “Splash”, which uses gorgeous showgirls to captivate its audience with their dynamic dances and glamorous costumes. Tribute artists lead high-energy, rapid-fire numbers and the choreography includes all kinds of dancing from street to classical and jazz. In order to keep up with the times, Splash has put in a new red, white and blue “Tribute to America”, which is a celebration of freedom. There are the moves and the music of major pop icons like Janet Jackson and Billy Ocean. There is a “Dirty Dancing” salsa routine and some numbers from the musical “Cabaret”. There are also daredevil motorcyclists and ice dancing, jugglers and comedians.
Then, at the Venetian – there is V – the Ultimate Variety Show. It is like the the TV show called “30 seconds to fame”. Every show includes special effects, WILD comedy, death-defying stunts, visual artists and much more including what would simply be called physical insanity. New acts are always added, so you can see V again and again. What’s more, it is accessible for all members of the family – whatever their age.
