Celine Dion started her five-night a week Las Vegas show in March of 2003, performing at a 4,000 seat arena at the Collosseum in Caesars Palace. The arena was actually specially built for her show. The show is called “A New Day…” and lasts ninety minutes.

“A New Day…” is trying to introduce a completely new form of entertainment, fusing song, theatrical innovation, performance art and state of the art technology.

Franco Dragone’s company, Dragone Productions, created the show, and just as a guide to what to expect in terms of entertainment and “wow-factor”, Dragone was behind the creation of the critically acclaimed Cirque du Soleil shows.

Dragone and Dion transport the Las Vegas audience to a quite unique theatrical world. They have planned each song to evoke a unique theatrical experience. For one thing, Dragone uses North America’s largest indoor LED screen to evoke moods within the music, creating an environment transcending the usual limitations that theatrical productions can suffer from physically.

Traditional props, lighting, projected images and some incredibly sharp three-dimensional graphics are used to put Celine and her audience in great city centers, starry sky-scapes, European town squares, and picturesque antique temples.

This creates an illusion of depth, meaning that the 4000-seater Colosseum feels like more of an immense public space instead of a traditional theatre. There are over 50 musicians, vocalists and performers working with Celine, who have mastered the challenges of physical and aerial training, perfected stunning choreographies, and worked on complicated vocal and percussion sessions during some intensive workshops that took place in both Las Vegas and Belgium.

To give you a feel of how much effort has been put into getting the best performers possible for the show, thousands of auditions took place to select this international cast. Artists who auditioned needed to go to La Louviere in Belgium, or Paris, London, Montreal, New York, Las Vegas, Chicago, Los Angeles and Amsterdam.

Most of the musicians have toured with Celine for almost a decade now. This includes the background vocalists, a flutist, cellists, an accordionist, a drummer, a pianist, guitarists and a percussionist. Keyboards are played by Claude “Mego” Lemay, her longtime bandleader.

As for the music that you will hear, well the show features a range, from classic Celine Dion songs, to some beautifully-arranged standards to some of her latest hits. Her career goes back many years, and she has sold more than 150 million albums around the world, so there are plenty of songs to choose from – after all, this is the all-time highest selling female artist we’re talking about here.

If you want tickets you must be sharp, as once tickets are released they sell out very fast.
