The airport's size does not allow it to accommodate for all US (American Airline, Continental, Delta, TWA, and United Airlines) and International Airlines (Air New Zealand, Swissair, British Airways, China Airlines, Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, Korea, and Philippine Airline.) Full service is provided for all these airlines at Honolulu International Airport which is on Oahu Island. From here local airlines can be used to fly to Lanai Airport and the rest of the Hawaiian Islands.
The airport accommodates two major airlines:
- Hawaiian Airlines which has been going since 1929 and at present travels between just under 20 local and international destinations in the Pacific area. It specializes in serving routes between Hawaii and the Western US and South Pacific.
- Island Air has been termed "Hawaii's leader in commuter service," operating on average fifty flights daily between the Hawaiian Islands key resort destinations.
The airport only has a single runway only serves scheduled inter-island taxi planes, and the occasional unscheduled charter flights. The airport has also recently had its terminal and all its facilities updated and re-vamped. This development has improved motorway access to the it, created more parking, allowed the inclusion of car rental services and finally increased the number of airport support services. A snack bar and gift shop are located in the terminal.
Future plans include lengthening the runway so that jet planes which are not payload restricted can be accommodated. Currently the Kaumalaupau Highway is the major road route to the airport through Lanai City.
Visitors to the Lanai will find that it is served by hotel shuttles and limousines, as well as by car rental companies. You might want to consider using the Manele Bay Hotel and The Lodge at Koele shuttles.
Two of the car rental companies include Rabaca's Limousine Service and Dollar Rent-a-car. To find out more please click here.
