Kauai Bed and Breakfasts - Recommendations
A Bed and Breakfast, Kauai's popular cheap and cheery form of accommodation, is usually part of a private home that has rooms which are rented out. As the name suggests, breakfast comes included in the price of the room and may range from anywhere between a simple continental to a full english. Bathrooms are usually shared with other guests, although sometimes rooms with en suites are available. On Kauai, B and B owners tend to be friendly and willing to help. They can give you advice on where to go, what to see and how to get there.
Most insist on a minimum stay of three nights and some may allow you to opt out of breakfast for a cheaper rate. Double rooms vary in price with cottages and studios being at the top end of the spectrum. Some of Kauai's B&Bs are listed below.
North Coast B&Bs

This B&B is ideally located for those who want to be close to the beach. Hanalei Bay's beach is less than five minutes walk away and it is only a short stroll to Hanalei's shopping and dining. In addition to rooms in the tall three-storey house, the owner has a vacation rental house nearby.

This used to be a Buddhist temple which was established for the immigrant Japanese community in 1901. The building has now been restored for use as a B&B and it still retains a very Oriental look. Right in the heart of the picturesque town of Hanalei it is within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants. The Japanese owners use organic ingredients from their farm to prepare breakfast, American or Japanese style.
East Coast B&Bs

This little quaint little place to stay is situated in a peaceful, rural location and is beautifully furnished with antiques and objets d'art. There are double suites and one cottage available for rental with continental breakfast.

This charming place on Kauai is based in an attractive location on a three-acre flower farm at the foot of Mount Waialeale. The owners can assist with arranging excursions and tours. They provide beach towels for their guests' use. Nature lovers will enjoy the wildlife and scenery.

This old plantation home has been restored and carefully decorated to provide an authentically-Hawaiian atmosphere. The buildings are in a beautiful setting with ponds, tropical flowers and waterfalls. Smoking is not allowed.

Guests have shared access to the swimming pool, well-tended garden, TV, fridge and phone. Both the friendly service and the delicious breakfasts are incentives to stay at this bed and breakfast. In addition to the rooms, there is also a self-contained studio apartment with a shower, kitchen and TV.
